It seems obvious: when you want to end hunger, you need to know why people aren't getting enough food. When we asked our neighbors what was preventing them from getting enough to eat, we learned a lot about what our communities are missing. And often, the answer wasn't just "more food."

For example, Ashley's community faces unique challenges. Growing up in rural South Carolina, her family had to drive a half-hour to the grocery store, and it was difficult to get fresh fruits and vegetables.
Now, Ashley works as a Farmer Educator at the Gullah Farmers Cooperative Association. Through the Food Security Equity Impact Fund (FSEIF), Feeding America helped provide funding to the Low Country Food Bank and Ashley's organization to help build wholesale markets to support local growers and increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables in rural communities. She knew best how to help her community.
"With the work that we're doing, it's giving everyone a chance to have a healthier way of life," Ashley says. "I believe that access to fresh food is the foundation of equity."
Feeding America started the FSEIF in 2021 to get resources to projects like this—projects run by people who understand the needs of their community best. Since then, the Fund has worked with over 35 food banks and local food organizations like Ashley's, providing over $20.4 million in grants to help groups find creative solutions to hunger tailored to their community's needs.
This is the kind of transformative, innovative work your support helps make possible.
When we come together like this, we can ensure our neighbors have the food and resources they need to thrive.
Sincerely,
