| Imagine you run a grocery store. You're probably like most store owners who hate to see good food go uneaten. So at the end of each day, when looking at the food you can't sell, what do you do? That's where MealConnect comes in. This food donation platform is a place for businesses to post the perfectly good surplus food they have to offer. Nearby Feeding America member food banks then use the app to get updates on available food and can quickly go pick it up to get it to people facing hunger. Thanks to supporters like you, in 2024 alone, MealConnect helped rescue over 1.4 billion pounds of food—enough to serve more than 1.1 billion meals.
"I basically base the meal off what we get in through MealConnect and that's how we come up with what we're going to be serving that day," said Chef Robert, the executive chef at East County Transitional Living Center (ECTLC) in San Diego. ECTLC is a partner of Feeding San Diego, a Feeding America network food bank. "With MealConnect, that's how we're able to provide a free program for our [neighbors] is with the partnership of receiving the food like we do through food rescue." "We get tons of produce through MealConnect, which is good for the kids and for us because most other places don't get that stuff. So to have fresh produce that we could put out in the morning for breakfast or throughout the day for people to enjoy is a huge blessing," Chef Robert continued. Chef Robert is in good company—last year, MealConnect was used by more than 7,000 partner organizations and 161 member food banks, helping rescue and distribute food across all 50 states daily! But we're not stopping here—there's so much more food out there to rescue. That's why we're so grateful for your support.
