This means more of our neighbors may turn to local food banks for support.

At the same time, recent changes mean that fewer people are receiving support through government nutrition programs, like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which impacts nearly 5 million people—including more than 1 million children.

"Growing up, my family relied on government aid and food stamps. We got supplemental food from local churches, and I depended on school lunches. Even still, food insecurity wasn't something I was necessarily aware of...But I realize now that it did impact me as a kid and caused feelings of instability in school, with friends and during the holidays," said Leighton Meester.
