If I were to pick any two vintages from Barde‑Haut to show exactly what this estate can do, 2015 and 2016 would be the ones. I’ve tasted across their vertical many times—young, mature, side‑by‑side—and these two vintages capture the moment where the château’s style really sharpened. The 2015 brings that dynamic, aromatic, classically structured profile; the 2016 shows off a new level of purity, finesse, and detail. They’re different expressions, but both speak to an estate hitting its stride in a way that’s unmistakable.
What makes this offer genuinely special is everything surrounding the wines. We’re delivering perfectly stored, highly rated, decade‑old stock with flawless provenance, at pricing that sits comfortably below current market levels. This combination of pedigree, condition, and remarkable value is what we’re endlessly searching for here at K&L—and this is one of the best examples we’ve seen. For anyone who loves St‑Émilion and wants to experience two of the most compelling vintages this estate has ever produced, or is simply looking for flat‑out delicious red wines from any region, this is a truly stunning opportunity

| 96 pts · Jeb Dunnuck · March 2020 An awesome Saint Emilion, the 2015 Château Barde-Haut showed even better on this occasion than on release. A huge nose of sweet crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, violets, leather, and dried herbs gives way to a full-bodied wine that has a great mid-palate, ripe, silky tannins, not a hard edge to be found, and a great, great finish. |
| 95 pts · James Suckling · February 2018 Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, wet earth and black tea. Full-bodied, dense and layered with medium, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows focus and power. |

Ryan Moses, K&L Bordeaux Buyer Usually one of the top high‑end values in Bordeaux, Barde‑Haut’s 2015 takes things to another level entirely. It’s the kind of bottle that reminds you why the estate has become such a quiet favorite among people who actually follow St‑Émilion closely. The aromatics are incredibly intriguing—nuanced, layered, and constantly shifting. At its core, it’s classic St‑Émilion, but there’s this wild blue‑fruit streak that keeps flashing through, giving the wine a dynamic edge you don’t always see here.
On the palate, the focus and balance are terrific. It’s dialed back from the more flamboyant, high‑octane styles of 2009 or 2010, yet the quality absolutely belongs in the same conversation. A bright burst of acidity carries deep red fruits, subtle earth and mineral tones, and mouth‑coating tannins that feel both serious and inviting. The 20% Cabernet Franc makes itself known on the finish in a wonderfully engaging way—lifted, aromatic, and just a touch savory.
And the real advantage here: we’re delivering this a full decade past the vintage, with perfect provenance and at pricing that sits comfortably below current market levels. That combination—mature stock, pristine condition, and genuine value—almost never lines up for wines of this caliber. It’s a lot of wine for the money, full stop, and a bottle that will thrill Bordeaux fans of every persuasion over the next 15–20 years. |

John Majeski, K&L Staff Member One of our more estimable producers has to be St-Emilion’s stunning Château Barde-Haut, under the wise, felicitous guidance of Hélène Garcin-Leveque and her husband Patrice. Her unmatched dynamism as an ambassador of her family’s portfolio and his intimate, working knowledge of the amphitheater of vines under his watchful eye, are the epitome of synergy. The 2015 Barde-Haut St-Emilion $44.99 is on track to be one of the best wines ever produced at this estate, echoing the words of the Patrice Lévèque, “no makeup, just a truthful wine that will age!” An elegant, richly imbued wine, with aromas of ripe black plum and bright cherry following through on the palate with touches of spice, loam and leather. This wine will evolve for another decade if you have the desired patience, but why wait? |

| 96 pts · Vinous · January 2019 Readers will find a rich, flamboyant wine in the 2016 Barde-Haut. There is not a ton of subtlety here, but I am not sure that matters all that much given how immensely pleasing the 2016 is. Crushed rocks, graphite, lavender, blackberry, plum, and violet infuse a Saint-Émilion that offers tremendous textural richness as well as vibrancy. Most importantly of all, the 2016 is flat-out delicious. This is a decidedly opulent, dark Saint-Émilion with all of the elements impeccably balanced. I loved it. (AG) |
| 95 pts · Jeb Dunnuck · March 2020 Lastly, the 2016 Château Barde-Haut might end up being the best wine ever made at this address from the Garcin-Lévêque family, and it certainly ranks with the crème de la crème of the vintage. Dense purple-hued with awesome notes of cassis, black cherries, spring flowers, damp earth, and violets, it hits the palate with incredible purity and precision, a deep, multi-dimensional texture, sweet tannins (from ripe fruit, not sugar), and a building sense of minerality that shows on the finish. It has the depth of fruit and elegance to shine even today yet will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and evolve for two decades. (JD) 95+ |
| 95 pts · The Wine Independent · January 2023 The 2016 Barde Haut is deep garnet-purple in color. It has a powerful nose of black and blue fruit with hints of cumin seed, Sichuan pepper, candied violets, and anise. Medium to full-bodied, the firm, grainy palate is packed with rich black fruits, finishing long and peppery. (LPB) |
| 94 pts · James Suckling · April 2019 This shows such complex and beautiful aromas of flowers, lavender, light spearmint and currants. Medium to full body, very fine tannins and a long finish. All about finesse and length. |

Ryan Moses, K&L Bordeaux Buyer The 2016 Barde‑Haut is all about precision and poise—a wine that seems to know exactly what it wants to be. From the first swirl, there’s an almost crystalline clarity to the aromatics: lifted notes of blueberry compote, cassis, and a touch of graphite that signal a vintage built on purity rather than power. It’s immediately inviting, yet there’s a quiet confidence underneath that hints at the structure to come.
The palate follows through beautifully. Juicy black and blue fruits glide across a frame that feels remarkably refined, with tannins so seamless and weightless they almost disappear into the fruit. Everything is clean, fresh, and impeccably detailed, the kind of balance that makes you stop for a moment just to appreciate how dialed‑in the winemaking has become here.
What’s especially compelling is how this fits into the broader arc of the estate. We’ve been fans of Barde‑Haut for a long time at K&L—through vintages that impressed on release and others that blossomed with age—but the recent evolution in style is genuinely exciting. There’s more nuance now, more definition, more of that quiet sophistication that separates very good wines from truly memorable ones.
And with this parcel arriving a decade past the vintage, carrying perfect provenance and offered at below‑market pricing, the value proposition becomes almost absurd. The 2016 is a beautifully composed, deeply satisfying St‑Émilion that will reward patience, but it’s already showing the kind of class that makes cellaring feel like a bonus rather than a requirement. |

Aaron Hughes, K&L Staff Member · May 5, 2026 Ever since I started here, I remember us almost always having some vintage of Barde-Haut around. It's classic as bacon and eggs, and always seems to be something I enjoy. No exceptions here. Definitely the 2016s are a bit lighter and higher acid, but that's definitely meaning that I enjoy this maybe a little more. This is getting some nice dark olive notes, mushrooms at the edges and then fruit in the middle, darker fruits with a little crunchy bright on the edges. The tannins are really well integrated on the palate, a little bit finer and softer, but I still want this with something to eat, I could see this with a nice mid-lean steak and healthy potato. |

John Majeski, K&L Staff Member Not to be outdone, the 2016 Barde-Haut St-Emilion is composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, reflecting the power and finesse of the clay-rich over limestone soils of the lustrous St-Emilion plateau. Opulent, richly-textured and complex, as the finest wines of the vintage have proven to be, this possesses an abundance of pure fruits, cassis and violets, bolstered by ripe, velvety tannins and a cruising finish of lovely acidity. Pair with grilled, herb-crusted ribeyes for a truly memorable meal. |

Jacques Moreira, K&L Staff Member From our good friend Hélène Garcin-Lévêque. Barde-Haut always delivers, and the excellent 2016 is no different! Incredibly complex, with notes that go from lavender, kirsch, blueberries to graphite and spices, with an earthy minerality all throughout. It is opulent, it is beautiful, and a tremendous value for its quality. Check out also the other vintages of Barde-Haut we have available in our inventory. They are all singing! |

Scott Beckerley, K&L Staff Member A super solid St. Emilion with earth and cedar scents, pencil lead and dark red fruits. In the mouth, nice richness, with a bit more black fruited character (blackberry, boysenberry) and (surprise!) a dry, chalky finish. |

| 94 points, Neal Martin in Vinous: "The 2016 Barde-Haut has a crisp and well defined bouquet, very pure, with black cherries, blueberry, violet and a touch of crushed stone, all very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, silky smooth in texture with pure black cherries, raspberry and light orange rind notes towards the finish. This represents an impressive follow-up to the 2015. Tasted at the Barde-Haut vertical at the château." (06/2022) |
