OUR TOP 20 UNDER $20
August 2026

Here's the math on summer: more bottles opened, more people showing up, same budget you had in June. So this week we kept things mostly under $20, added a few wines Keith Mabry can't stop drinking, plus the chillable reds on rotation at Chez Ryan Woodhouse. (There's also one splurge at the bottom, because rules are made to be broken...at least once.)

The Buyers' Corner

CLASSIC FRENCH FAVORITES
For the Dog Days of Summer

A bright, refreshing bottle of wine can be just the relief we’re looking for as we get into the high double-digit—and sometimes triple-digit—temperatures of late summer. For me, two categories immediately come to mind: Sauvignon Blanc and rosé.

For Sauvignon Blanc, the Loire Valley is home to some of the best choices, and the QPR on the wines I’ve selected here is off the charts. Touraine, which we often refer to as “baby Sancerre,” remains one of my favorite regions for everyday drinking. You get that bright citrus, freshness, and minerality we love from Loire Sauvignon Blanc without the Sancerre price tag. Of course, sometimes you want the real thing, and we have a terrific Sancerre in the mix as well. Fournier’s 2023 Belles Vignes remains one of my favorites this year.

For rosé, Provence still rules the roost. Our Direct Import relationships have helped us keep these wines affordable while delivering the quality we’re looking for at prices far more competitive than some of the bigger names like Whispering Angel and Miraval.

And for something a little richer and broader on the palate, don’t forget about the rosés of Bandol. Produced along the Provençal coast and driven by Mourvèdre, these are some of the most impressive and distinctive rosés on the market.

I hope you enjoy this curated selection of summer sippers as much as I do. There’s plenty here to help get us through the last hot days of summer

DON'T SWEAT IT
Just Chill Your Reds

Living in California and enjoying our generally moderate-to-warm climate, I personally love wines chillable red wines. I’ve also long preferred serving even fuller-bodied reds notably cooler than ambient room temperature—something we sometimes jokingly call “castle temperature,” rather than modern-day room temperature, which is often 70°F or higher.

In today’s wine market, the lines between dark rosé and light red continue to blur. Many light “red” wines incorporate significant amounts of white grapes as producers look to make refreshing, quaffable wines that are versatile, playful, and easy to enjoy. Read more On The Trail.

The Splurge: 96pts Decanter, $75 Off

THE INSIDER'S ADVANTAGE
Luxury for Less

What do you think it would cost to take ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon fruit from a highly renowned vineyard in one of Napa Valley's most exclusive and expensive sub-regions, then have it crafted into wine by one of the valley's most sought-after cult winemakers? Now put that wine into a beautiful screen-printed, hand-waxed bottle and add a 96-point score from a top wine publication. What would you expect to pay — $150? $200? Well, today we have exactly that, exclusively through Insider's Advantage, for under $50! Sourced predominantly from La Montagna Vineyard on Pritchard Hill, with celebrated neighbors including Colgin, Bryant, Ovid, Realm, and Chappellet. The wine was made by Atelier Melka by superstar winemaker Maayan Koschitzky, whose résumé includes Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Lail, and Checkerboard. Powerful, bold, and unapologetically modern — this is a wine that both looks and tastes seriously expensive, yet thanks to our huge Insider's Advantage discount, is remarkably affordable.
