ELYSIUM
When temperatures drop, routines matter even more: our wellness rituals, what we eat, and how we provide support to the systems that carry us through the seasons. This month, Elysium co-founder and chief scientist Leonard Guarente, Ph.D. shares how research shapes his daily routine, members of our Scientific Advisory Board discuss nutrition and strength as pillars of long-term health, and we break down what the science actually says about NMN supplementation. Plus, our supplements continue to make news, with Vogue highlighting Basis (twice!) in its 2026 wellness guide, and the New York Post naming Index the best thoughtful gift for anyone focused on healthy aging.
DAY IN THE LIFE: DR. LEONARD GUARENTE
In a recent interview with Paige Port, President of Dear Media, Elysium co-founder and chief scientist Leonard Guarente, Ph.D., offered a candid look at how decades of longevity research shape his daily habits. Rather than rigid rules, his routine reflects balance and evidence-based moderation—from probiotic yogurt for gut health to a single, well-brewed cup of coffee. “It’s like almost anything,” he says. “Too little doesn’t do anything good, there’s an optimum, and then too much gets worse again. So I drink exactly one cup of coffee a day. But it’s a pretty good cup.”
The New Pyramid
The federal government’s new inverted food pyramid emphasizes whole foods and protein, specifically red meat. Elysium Scientific Advisory Board member Dariush Mozaffarian, M.D., Dr.P.H., shared with Boston’s WCVB an important reminder about how nutrition actually supports long-term health. A cardiologist and leading nutrition epidemiologist at Tufts University, Dr. Mozaffarian noted that protein intake alone isn’t a cure-all. “Without strength training, more protein just gets turned into fat by the body, and it actually won’t be good for health,” he explained. His response reinforces a pillar of longevity science: that systems—like diet, movement, and metabolism—work together, not in isolation.
Index
In a roundup of fitness and wellness gifts designed to support healthier living, the New York Post highlighted Elysium’s Index Biological Age Test as a standout thoughtful gift, noting “knowledge is one of the best gifts you can give someone.” Index was recognized for its ability to measure biological age across 10 key dimensions and pair results with science-backed recommendations. The feature underscores a shift in wellness gifting: from gadgets to insights, and from guesswork to a measurable understanding of health.

VOGUE
In Vogue’s Wellness Shop guide, its editors highlighted the rituals and products shaping how people care for their health in 2026. Basis was featured not once, but twice. The roundup emphasized a holistic approach to wellness, highlighting products that fit naturally and effectively into daily self-care rituals. Basis stood out for its science-first formulation and focus on foundational cellular health, reinforcing Elysium’s longstanding approach that longevity isn’t about shortcuts, but about consistent, research-backed support.
Michael Fredericson, M.D.
Midlife—from 40 to 65—is a critical time to invest in habits that protect long-term health, and Elysium Scientific Advisory Board member Michael Fredericson, M.D., says exercise to preserve muscle and bone is critical. In a recent feature on healthy aging, the Stanford sports medicine physician emphasized the importance of strength training to counter age-related muscle loss. “The key to getting stronger is you have to exercise close to fatigue,” Fredericson explained. “If you're not exercising to fatigue, you might maintain, but you’re not really going to build new muscle.” He also advises patients to make movement a daily habit, noting: “Your body really needs that daily stimulus to get the most benefit.”
In our Aging 101 article, we cut through the hype to focus on what actually matters when choosing an NMN supplement. From delivery method and dosage to purity and complementary ingredients, our guide explains how to evaluate products using published clinical research. One key takeaway: only oral NMN has been clinically tested to increase NAD+ levels in humans. And while scientists believe diet provides enough NMN for normal functioning, the article notes that it’s not enough “to replace the NAD+ lost with age.”
“
I was so happy to feel the results of both Signal and Basis. They have helped me with strength and energy. Over and above that, their customer service is far and away the best I have encountered and I could not be happier to be a customer. I also received new hard containers that are beautiful and they travel well and make receiving my monthly subscription more convenient with less waste. Thank you for a great product and employees to back it up!!
