Baron-Fuenté "7" Brut Champagne

It has been a number of years since we were able to get some of this tete de cuvée Champagne from Baron Fuente, and I am thrilled to finally be able to offer it! This wine has concentration and focus that is up their with the best Champagne that we offer. It is the first time that they have introduced a proportion of barrel fermented Champagne in one of their wines, and just like the vintage offerings from houses like Billecart and Roederer, it only shows in texture- there is no wood flavor at all! This is vibrant, mineral driven Champagne that has the pin point streamers and fine texture that only a long seven years of ageing on the lees will bring. This is one of the great deals in top notch Champagne that we offer!

Baron Fuente

Baron-Fuenté "7" Brut Champagne ($59.99)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Called Cuvée 7 because it is aged for seven years after bottling and before disgorgement, this wine is beautifully mature. It has a tight texture that is rich. The fruit is relaxing into almond and yeast flavors, with some toast as well as considerable minerality. (RV)" (08/2018)

91 points James Suckling: "Lovely bead of bubbles with a creamy texture and pie crust, toasted bread and ripe apples that follow through to a medium to full body. Flavorful finish." (07/2019)

K&L Notes: This is the tete de cuvée from the Baron family in Charly-sur-Marne, and what a big step up it is! It is all estate grown and composed of 40% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 30% Meunier, a proportion of which is barrel fermented. It is aged, as advertised, for seven years on the lees, and dosed at 7 g/l. This spectacularly well-balanced Champagne is a great addition to their range! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

My favorite Champagne in the Baron Fuente lineup. You get the value that you've come to expect from B.F., but in this instance, there's a lovely richness, with a nice round texture to it. Lots of mineral drive, and bright acidity to help the nicely textured wine go a very long way. Beautiful, long-lasting savory finish!

At first, I found this unique release to be chalky with spiced nuts (on the nose) and saline scents. Once the air hit it, yellow apple and guava came to the forefront and then, the chardonnay citrus definitely took over. Creamy, with lemon and spice flavors dominating on the palate until finish. To date, one of the most interesting releases that we have had from this venerable producer!
