Walter Scott

As Oregon Wine Month comes to a close, we’re marking the very last day with a tasting that brings together some of the producers, vineyards, and voices that have shaped the state’s wine identity from its earliest days to the present. What began with a handful of ambitious pioneers planting Pinot Noir in the late 1960s has evolved into a landscape of deeply individual voices—families farming marginal hillsides, winemakers reviving overlooked grapes, and estates crafting wines that speak clearly of place. The Eyrie Vineyards, whose first vintage in 1970 changed the trajectory of New World Pinot, is joined by a new generation that continues to push boundaries while staying rooted in Oregon’s independent spirit. Across the Willamette Valley, from Ribbon Ridge to Eola-Amity, this tasting explores the tension between climate, soil, and vision that continues to define the region. There’s no better way to close out the month than by raising a glass to the land and people that have shaped—and continue to reshape—Oregon wine.

Alsace

Three deeply interwoven wine cultures, one fabulous tasting. Across the Rhine and the Danube, generations of growers have worked steep slopes, and ancient terraces to express their land through grapes like Riesling, Silvaner, and Grüner Veltliner. Here, the legacy of monastic viticulture meets centuries-old family domaines, many still working the same parcels their ancestors once planted. The result is a conversation between regions—Alsace’s sun-drenched hillsides, the mineral-laced vineyards of Franconia, and the wind-swept terraces of the Wachau—each speaking in a distinct dialect of soil, structure, and soul. This is not simply a tasting of varietals, but a glimpse into how landscape, lineage, and historical currents continue to shape some of the most storied white wines in the world.
