The incredible Siete Leguas distillery is unquestionably one of tequila’s very best, but it doesn't have the bravado of many more popular brands. They've remained at their beautifully authentic distillery in Atotonilco el Alto since it was founded by Ignacio González Vargas in 1952. Rather than spending time or money marketing their products, they've dedicated their full attention to producing the most authentic and delicious tequila possible. For years, rumors of a special, high-proof blanco available only in Jalisco circulated among tequila enthusiasts. This legendary tequila apparently existed—and now it's finally here as one of the distillery's first new products in years.
Widely recognized as one of the finest blancos available at any price, the new Siete Leguas 47 is a masterpiece of traditional production. The nose is impeccable, displaying a depth and complexity rarely experienced in modern tequila: pungent aromas of overripe cooked agave, sweet agave fibers, black pepper, fresh herbs of all kinds, dense grass, and hints of black olive and coriander seed. On the palate, a striking mineral presence combines with zesty citrus, roasted spices, more fresh herbs, and sweet tropical fruit. Absolutely stunning, this tequila quickly ranks among my top five blancos available today. Well done, Señor González!

($74.99)
Crafted with near-obsessive attention to detail—from volcanic-stone ovens and tahona extraction to open-air fermentation in pure spring water—Siete Leguas “47” Blanco is the kind of labor-intensive tequila most brands only dream of producing. Bottled at still strength to preserve every shimmering layer of roasted agave, mineral, and spice, it delivers a depth and purity that seasoned collectors rank alongside the category’s icons. That this pinnacle of traditional distillation comes in under $80 only heightens its status as the most compelling blanco value we’ve seen in years.
