This week's lineup includes three exceptional wines under $20, each a testament to what sharp buying and good timing can deliver. Check out a stunning Santa Barbara Pinot Noir at a price that shouldn't be possible, a Petit Chablis from one of the appellation's oldest and most trusted estates, and a beautifully textured Albariño from one of Rías Baixas' founding producers. First, back in stock, the 95-point 2021 Tread Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir is the kind of deal that comes along once in a while and disappears fast. The winery recently changed hands and came to K&L looking to move inventory. This is a classically made, cool-climate Pinot sourced from Sta. Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley, two appellations that complement each other beautifully: Sta. Rita brings floral, high-toned red fruit while Santa Maria adds a savory, earthy dimension. Black raspberry, cherry, sarsaparilla, and hints of bramble make for an open and expressive bottle that drinks far above its price. At more than 60% off the original price, this is a great case buy opportunity. Also worth grabbing: the 94-point 2022 Tread "Sierra Madre Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay, equally well-priced and not long for our shelves. Next, the 2023 Domaine Seguinot Bordet Petit Chablis comes from a family with roots in the region dating to 1590, and the wine is drinking wonderfully right now. Vineyards on the elevated limestone plateaus around Maligny, restrained oak, and careful lees aging yield a wine of vibrant acidity, saline minerality, and crisp citrus depth that far exceeds what most Petit Chablis delivers. Jean-François Bordet's commitment to pure vineyard expression is evident in every sip. At more than 35% off, this is also an easy case buy for anyone who loves Chablis or simply wants a reliably delicious white at the table all summer. Finally, the 2024 As Laxas "Laxas" Albariño Rias Baixas arrives from one of Rías Baixas' original commercial producers, with a first release dating back to 1986. Sourced entirely from estate fruit in the Condado do Tea subregion along the northern bank of the Miño river, this is a distinctly inland style of Albariño: a touch more body and fruit than its coastal counterparts, with a riverstone minerality in place of the briny saltiness of Val do Salnés. Refreshing, textured, and genuinely characterful.
