K&L's "Faultline" 100 Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey ($39.99) K&L Notes: 2012, at a time when finding great stocks had already become difficult, it was sourced and blended from exceptionally high-quality MGP casks through our dear friends at Smooth Ambler Distillery. We knew that in an increasingly crowded Indiana bourbon market, we would need to find some truly kick@$$ barrels. We started with an incredible 10-year-old low-rye formula and layered in some 7-year-old high-rye bourbon, tasting and adjusting until we found the sweet spot at 100 proof. The exact blend remains proprietary, but the result was far better than we ever expected. The goal was simply to offer our customers something fun, delicious, and distinctive, but the final whiskey proved to be truly phenomenal: rich, sweetly fruited on the entry, full-bodied through the mid-palate, and long, spicy, and satisfying on the finish. For years, we could not source barrels of the same quality to recreate this special blend. Now, with new access to top-tier MGP stocks, we have finally been able to hunker down and bring this incredible bourbon back to life. We only produce Faultline when we find a batch worthy of the original recipe, because this bourbon is the old king of K&L. Taste it if you don’t believe us.
Beautiful amber color. Nose of earth, grain and caramelized peaches. Great texture and body. Presents beautifully at 100 proof. A steal for the price! Jackson Kelly | K&L Staff Member | Review Date: April 08, 2026 A masterclass in blending by our buy team. For someone who doesn't typically like high-rye bourbons, I am a huge fan of the latest Faultline release. Coming in right at 100 proof, this bourbon is delicious, with notes of cacao, fresh coffee, and citrus peel on the palate and a long, spicy finish. A perfect bourbon for sipping straight or enjoying in a cocktail, at an exceptional price.
I really love these more budget friendly bourbons that we bring in, whether it's this Faultline series, or the K&L Liquors series, they just always fill this perfect niche of a more unique spirit that doesn't break the bank. This current 2026 release has this beautifully spicy nose, barrel spices on the nose, there's some burnt orange peel, cacao nibs, then little touches of vanilla and custard with a little peanut shell. The palate is fantastic, just a little touch of heat but the proof holds true and at the second sip it's just a smooth one. There's like a cedary sandalwood on the forefront, with coffee and dark chocolate that follows, and then a little bit of citrus oil comes in, pushing right into a to toasty and lingering spicy finish. This is really delicious, a little bit more savory than some but there's no missed notes in the song it's singing. Really feels like it's going to make a great Old Fashioned as well. For the price, it's everything I wanted it to be and just a little more. I like that little more.
I love the subtle perfume of the rye in this. I get that subtle grassy note with sweet vanilla notes and buttered toffee character. Congrats to the spirits buyers on this selection, this is my go to favorite right now. |
