Whether you're stocking up for summer gatherings or adding something special to the cellar, this week's selection offers plenty to explore. From grower-minded Champagne and mature Bordeaux to an outstanding Cognac value, each bottle has a story worth discovering. First, Baron-Fuenté "Grande Réserve" Brut Champagne is one of our favorite reminders that truly outstanding Champagne doesn't have to come with a lofty price tag. Composed of 60% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay, and 10% Pinot Noir, it spends three years on the lees before release, with 40% reserve wines and a dosage of 9 grams per liter lending it real depth and polish. The nose is floral and exotic with a doughy richness underneath. The palate is light and balanced, and it finishes with admirable precision. This is a serious aperitif Champagne at a price that punches far above its weight. Discover the rest of the triumphantly returning Baron-Fuenté line-up here. Next, the 2009 Lilian Ladouys, St-Estèphe is a wine our buyer didn't expect to find again in any meaningful quantity, and snapped up the moment it surfaced. For many, 2009 remains a benchmark for this estate: a brilliant Northern Médoc vintage meeting a producer hitting its stride. The aromatics alone make a compelling case, with deep cassis, blackberry, graphite, and thyme leading the way. The palate is built around red cherry, beautiful texture, and well-judged tannins that have knit together beautifully over fifteen years. It is evolved and approachable now, yet there is plenty left to give over the coming decade. Finally, 2015 PM Spirits Remi Landier Collab "Special Pale" VSOP Unfiltered No Additive Fin Bois Cognac (750ml) is the product of a nearly 20-year collaboration between K&L and the pioneering team at PM Spirits, led by Nicolas Palazzi. Aged seven years in a combination of used and toasted new French oak, bottled at 90 proof with no additives or filtration, this is Cognac made with real conviction. It would have qualified as XO at birth, and it drinks accordingly. Now available at more than 50% off its original price, it is as alluring an example of additive-free brandy as you will find at any price, and a serious cocktail Cognac for those who know the difference.
