K&L Customers Keep Coming Back To This Brut Baron-Fuenté "Grande Réserve" Brut Champagne (Elsewhere $37) ($29.99) "I love this Champagne for its friendly, open-knit personality and its easygoing refreshment, but it has more than this for those who want to take the time to get to know it... It is a serious bottle of Champagne! Don't let the low price fool you!" — Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer |
I have to stop being surprised by the excellent quality of this super well priced champagne. This fantastic bottle is aged for three years on the lees and has great honest toast from the aging process, as well as great refreshment from the high percentage of estate-grown vines used in the blend. Baron-Fuenté "Grande Réserve" Brut Champagne (Elsewhere $37) ($29.99) 90 points James Suckling: "Pastry, baked-apple and citrus aromas here. Its medium-bodied, fresh and gently yeasty with fine bubbles. Nicely balanced." (06/2024) Wine Spectator: "A light, lively Champagne, with a pure note of crunchy green apple riding the lacy texture, accompanied by hints of almond skin, ground ginger and pink grapefruit pith. Modest finish. Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. (AN)" (12/2023) K&L Notes: Baron-Fuenté is a négociant that owns almost 90 acres of vines and purchases another 90 acres "sur pied," meaning that they pick the grapes. This is an important distinction since many négociants buy "sur lattes," meaning in bottle! This delicious Champagne is composed of 10% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, and 60% Meunier and had been aged three years on the lees. It is fermented at relatively cold temperatures in stainless steel with 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine has a very light, white-gold color for the blend, which is predominantly black grapes and a very pretty, tight bead. On the nose it is flowery and exotic, with a doughy richness to anchor down the wildflower elements. On the palate the wine is well-balanced, light, and finishes very clean. This Champagne is a spectacular aperitif. The current batch is 40% reserve wines and dosed at 9 grams per liter. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)
An impressive Champagne by any standard. At this price, it would be hard NOT to purchase it by the case! Bright, fresh, and floral. The wine has a nice mineral tone throughout, and a citrus tone on its lengthy finish! A seriously incredible value!
Gwah?!? Champagne that taste great for such a low price? The French must be pissed. You can't drink better for cheaper anywhere in France. Fruit tart candies, slight brioche, creamy on the palate, but not cheesy. Wonderful texture and great freshness. An inexpensive champagne with a wonderful personality.
This has always been, and will always be, a staff and customer favorite! Nicely golden with almost a light straw color. On the nose it starts out light and pretty with aspects of fresh-cut flowers and bread dough. it then expands into yellow apple territory with added cream scents. In the mouth it has a tight bead with very well-balanced flavors of apples (both green and gold), lemon curd, and white cake. The finish is long, clean and zippy!
This is a really easy-drinking, approachable Champagne thats all about freshness and charm. Its mostly Pinot Meunier, with some Chardonnay and Pinot Noir rounding it out, and it shows right away with bright green apple, white pear, and just a little floral lift on the nose. Theres a light biscuit note from the lees aging, but nothing too yeasty or richit stays clean and fruit-forward. On the palate, its crisp and refreshing, with tight bubbles and a quick, citrusy finish. Its not the most complex bottle in the lineup, but thats part of its appealits fun, reliable, and incredibly easy to enjoy.
It's practically impossible to find better value that this Champagne! Slightly toasty with delicious brioche and a bit of hazelnut note, it's just perfect champagne for family gathering and large parties. It definitely has crowd pleasing profile and show immense complexity at the same time. Try a bottle and then stock up for the upcoming holidays. You will not regret it.

This is super pretty, super classic, with a really lovely fruited nose with red apple, a little bit of lemon zest, the middle of a baguette and just a little bit of chalkiness. The palate is still very red apple, but now completely drenched in lemon juice, really delicious and a crowd-pleasing style of Champagne. It's got a little bit of toast for those who want it, lots of fruit, and a really nice round acid character, not too sharp or biting. This is such a good deal at this price, and really deserves to be entered into your rotation for as long as we have, this bottle like all our other direct-import Champagne moves quickly, so if you like it, case up right away.
If you poured this wine for me blind and asked me to guess the price, Id say it drinks at double or even triple its actual cost. Its immediately inviting, with a classic toasty nose that reminds me of apple pie. With plenty of reserve wine, a traditional brut dosage, and extended lees aging, I expected a certain richness on the palateand it delivers. But alongside that luxurious texture is a bright vein of acidity that lifts everything, making it both cozy and refreshing at once. My advice? Buy one for yourself, one for your friends, and one for your family. And by one, I mean one case!
The Baron-Fuente "Grand Reserve" Brut Champagne has so many stellar staff reviews to its credit over the years it's hard to know what to add to the conversation. First off, it's a steal. Since Baron-Fuente is one of our long standing direct import champagnes, the pricing literally can't be beat. The average price for this fabulous bubbly is $38. We sell it for $24.99 (and we're the only west coast retailer who carries it!). Second, it's delicious! The majority Pinot Meunier gives it a medium body that is fruit forward, but balanced with racy acidity and toasty notes. The "Grand Selection" should dispel any notions that a champagne's price is indicative of its quality. This is a top notch champagne that should encourage you enjoy it as the French do -- every day with everything!
This has a lovely freshness to it that blends flavors of citrus, under-ripe tropical fruit, and dried ginger in the finish. This is mostly Pinot Meunier has enticing florals and for me this is a special cuvee that lends a cherry note that is delightfully playful on the palate. Finishing dry overall, and a great aperitive for the beginning of a meal or a toast.
Consistently my favorite go-to bubble for it's freshness, deft touch and biscuity aromas, the Fuente has always punched well above its fighting weight. Much like Golidlocks, I put Fuente in my "Just Right" category. It hits all the marks of balanced fruit, doughy yeast and crunchy acidity to give me everything I want in Champagne and for sub-$25 it even qualifies as daily drinker (or couple times a week drinker). The Grande Reserve is always satisfying from whatever angle you approach it and for sheer value, cannot be beat. |
