This week brings a little of what we love most about our buying program: access to bottles you won’t find elsewhere. Two of the three selections are K&L Exclusives, including a new mountain-grown Cabernet from our Anonymous Wine Collective and a tiny 90-bottle cask of Kentucky wheated bourbon. Between them, we’re revisiting one of our favorite Sancerre vineyards, freshly back in stock and every bit as compelling. First, the 2024 Anonymous Wine Collective Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon takes our Anonymous project somewhere new, to a historic estate vineyard perched above 2,000 feet on Diamond Mountain. Mature vines rooted in rocky volcanic soils give this Cabernet the intensity and structure you’d hope for from mountain-grown Napa fruit, while 18 months in French oak brings polish to its formidable tannins. We were able to select just a few barrels from a winery we’ve admired for years, making this exactly the sort of opportunity Anonymous was created for. Also new to the collection is the 2025 Anonymous Wine Collective Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay Next, the 2023 Domaine Dominique & Janine Crochet "Le Chêne Marchand" Sancerre is back in stock, bringing with it the finesse that makes this one of Crochet’s most sought-after wines. Their parcel combines the limestone and clay of Bué with a distinctive vein of soft chalk known as Griottes, lending the wine an especially graceful mineral character. Peach and lemon rind meet pristine chalkiness, while a touch of aging in large-format oak adds texture without obscuring the vineyard. For another look at Crochet’s superb terroirs, the newly arrived 2025 Domaine Dominique & Janine Crochet "Le Grand Chemarin" Sancerre is also worth a visit. Finally, the Augusta Distillery "Wheated" K&L Exclusive Cask Strength Single Barrel #26-64 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml) has returned, although with just 90 bottles from the cask, there isn’t much of it. Distilled in 2020 from a mashbill of 70% corn, 21% wheat and 9% malted barley, this six-year-old bourbon makes a persuasive case for giving wheated whiskey a little extra time in barrel. Dense and beautifully developed, it has the depth and complexity we look for in a mature wheater, bottled at cask strength without chill filtration. It’s our first exclusive single barrel from Augusta, and an intriguing glimpse into why this small northern Kentucky distillery has attracted so much attention.
