This is one of my clear wines of the vintage. We first tasted it en primeur and have revisited it regularly since release—it never fails to impress. Roughly half of La Gaffelière’s holdings border Ausone, perched on the same limestone-rich hillside just outside the town of Saint-Émilion. In recent vintages, a greater share of the Grand Vin has come from this prized parcel, and the results speak for themselves.

The wine opens with pure red fruit and delicate floral aromatics, leading into an elegant, finely detailed palate. The red fruit character carries through seamlessly, supported by bright acidity and beautifully balanced tannins. While 60% new oak was used, it integrates so effortlessly as to be virtually imperceptible. This is a standout vintage for La Gaffelière—a joyful expression of the Right Bank that far exceeds its modest price. Read more about this standout estate here.
