Three bottles worth your attention this week: a pair of Limoux sparklers that continue to majorly outperform their price tags, a Burgundian-minded Pinot Noir from one of Santa Barbara's historic vineyards at an unusually sharp price, and a new Kentucky Single Malt release arriving right on time for Father's Day. First, 2023 Antech "Cuvée Eugenie" Extra Brut Crémant de Limoux remains one of K&L's longest-running sparkling wine successes, and recent vintages have only strengthened the case. Moving to Extra Brut was a thoughtful decision. With lower dosage balancing increasingly ripe fruit in the region, the wine feels more precise and energetic than ever. Notes of spiced apple, pear, and a touch of ginger make for an easygoing, crowd-pleasing sparkler that still comes in under $20. Also worth a look is the 2023 Antech "M le Mauzac" Brut Nature Blanquette de Limoux, the latest release of Antech's zero-dosage bottling. Made from 90% Mauzac, hand harvested and aged 12 months on the lees, it shows just how much character this traditional grape can deliver without added sweetness. Clean, dry, and refreshing, it's an easy bottle to reach for at the start of an evening. Next, the 2023 Cordant "Bien Nacido Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir arrives at 60% off, which is the sort of pricing that stops you in your tracks for a vineyard-designate from one of California's benchmark sites. Since the Miller family planted Bien Nacido in 1973, the vineyard's direct Pacific influence has made it one of Santa Barbara's defining sources for cool-climate Pinot Noir. Cordant takes a restrained, Burgundian approach that lets the site speak clearly, and the result is a Pinot that's open, expressive, and ready to enjoy now. At similarly compelling pricing, you can explore the rest of the Cordant range here. Finally, just in time for Father's Day, the New Riff "Sour Mash" Kentucky Single Malt Whiskey (750ml) may be the distillery's most ambitious release to date. Built from three mashbills, matured across six finishing casks, and incorporating whiskey up to 10 years old before extended aging in used oak, it delivers plenty to unpack. The nose shows deep malt, sherried fruit, cocoa, citrus, and a measured touch of smoke. On the palate, rich fruit and broad Kentucky texture are balanced by surprising lift and structure, finishing long with notes of raspberry, bergamot, marmalade, and lingering peat. Bottled at cask strength, 115.2 proof, and without chill filtration, it's an easy Father's Day recommendation for the whiskey drinker who already owns most of the usual suspects.
