If 2025 has a winner, it's Margaux — sixty millimeters of rain at the very end of August dropped potential alcohol by more than a point and arrived exactly when the appellation needed it. Saint-Julien was the steadiest run of the entire trip, top to bottom. And Pauillac off roughly half the usual crop produced wines of extraordinary density and concentration. The Left Bank delivered. Margaux: the appellation of the vintage

Where the Left Bank impressed with structure and precision, the Right Bank was about texture. The moment we crossed from the Médoc, the whole character of the vintage shifted — silky, expressive wines layered with minerality. Saint-Émilion's limestone held yields remarkably steady while Pomerol's deep clay was the hero of the appellation, producing wines of concentration, purity, and a cool mineral edge unlike any recent vintage. Graves and Pessac-Léognan are often left out of the Bordeaux conversation — and that's a glaring omission. The quiet steal of the campaign was right here, especially the dry whites, which were as complete as any whites tasted across the entire vintage. Haut-Bailly earned universal top scores.
