K&L Tastings: Barolo, Ad Vivum Napa, & Tyler

The rosters are set for this week's in-store tastings, so please mark your calendars for an afternoon (or two) of fascinating and fun exploration with fellow wine and spirit lovers and our K&L staff. Please read below for more details on our upcoming events.

Ad Vivum centers on Cabernet Sauvignon from the Sleeping Lady Vineyard in Yountville, a site recognized for its alluvial soils, gentle benchland slope, and detailed parcel-by-parcel farming. Founder Chris Phelps spent formative years in Bordeaux working at Château Pétrus, where he trained under the Moueix family and absorbed a winemaking approach rooted in thoughtful restraint. He later returned to Napa as the founding winemaker at Dominus Estate, bringing that perspective into his early California work. In 2007 he established Ad Vivum with the aim of capturing the personality of a single vineyard through small-lot fermentations and careful selection. This tasting traces a decade of that exploration, offering a look at how vineyard expression evolves through time and farming continuity. Each wine reflects the intersection of site, season, and deliberate cellar work. The Ad Vivum, "Sleeping Lady Vineyard", Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon vintages 2022, 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016 will be served at this special tasting, showcasing an outstanding, single-vineyard Cabernet that regularly ranks among Napa’s top-scoring bottlings. Tyler Winery began in 2005 when Santa Barbara native Justin Tyler Willett started making Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from select vineyards across Santa Barbara County. Over time, Tyler has collaborated with highly regarded historic sites — including the famed vineyards of the Sta. Rita Hills — to produce wines that reflect the unique marine-inflected soils and coastal climate of the region. In 2015, Tyler established its own estate vineyard, the 28-acre Mae Estate, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah now grow organically. This tasting invites you to explore wines shaped by place: where cool Pacific breezes, sedimentary soils, and attentive farming converge in glass.
