Lagavulin’s latest Offerman adventure trades stormy seas for sun-kissed docks, thanks to an eight-month stay in Caribbean rum casks. It’s still an Islay bruiser at heart—peaty, salty, unmistakably Lagavulin—but now layered with a splash of tropical flair. The nose greets you with classic campfire smoke and sea spray, joined by caramelized pineapple and a swirl of lemon meringue. The palate continues the playful tug-of-war: molasses and banana bread dance with salty peat, while bright citrus keeps things lively before fading into a softer smoke trail. I find it less brooding than the 16-year, but no less charming—like Lagavulin on a beach holiday. This is clearly the passion project of a true whisky nerd; Offerman, a longtime lover of Lagavulin, drew inspiration for the dram’s tropical twist while filming The Resort in Puerto Rico.
