In fact, long before stainless steel and temperature control, winemakers fermented white grapes in this manner, crafting deeply expressive wines rooted in time-honored tradition. This tasting explores the revived world of skin-contact wines that include ancient Georgian traditions which rely on qvevri (pronounced: kweh-vree), large egg-shaped clay vessels buried underground for fermentation and aging. As well as bold, modern expressions that embrace native yeasts and minimal intervention that create unique, delicious characteristics. These wines may break with convention, but they don’t sacrifice quality and clarity—each glass tells a textured, unexpected, and thoughtful story of place and process.

A Look Back: Tasting 2016 Bordeaux Classics Saturday, June 21st ![]() While all eyes are on the newly released 2024 Bordeaux vintage, this Saturday our Bordeaux Buyer, Ryan Moses, is offering a special treat: a thoughtful selection of 2016s—wines that have quietly developed character and complexity over nearly a decade of aging. The 2016 vintage offered growers a long, even growing season and a dry, sunny harvest that yielded wines with freshness and clarity of structure. This tasting offers a chance to experience how those qualities are showing today, across distinctive appellations and some prominent house styles.
