| This Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, we celebrate the AANHPI neighbors leading the movement to build a future where no one experiences hunger. Their leadership helps our communities thrive for neighbors of all backgrounds. In Brooklyn, NY, Thomas volunteers at City Harvest, a Feeding America partner food bank, lifting food—and spirits—across Brooklyn. "The work here is not just about feeding people facing hunger, but also bringing neighbors together," he said. Thomas has lived in Brooklyn since 1975, when he emigrated from Hong Kong. He believes deeply in building a stronger, more connected community. "Once we were able to communicate and explain our differences, more and more people felt comfortable coming out and participating," he said. Through initiatives like City Harvest's mobile pantries, Feeding America is partnering with communities to understand the unique challenges they face and to help provide fair access to nutritious food. And with volunteers like Thomas, we work to make sure everyone can truly thrive. "We help put together the building blocks that would make the future generation in a much better environment than I went through," he said. Hunger impacts every race, culture and region in the U.S., and every individual has unique experiences with hunger. This AANHPI Heritage Month, learn more about the specific challenges facing AANHPI communities and join us in celebrating our Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander neighbors who are working to end hunger in communities across the country. Thank you for being a part of this vital work. As Thomas said, "We help bridge the social divide that caused so much tension in the city. And in doing so, we're building a better future." – Feeding America P.S. Want to help support initiatives to end hunger in all communities? Make a gift to Feeding America today. |
