| We're deep into summer, and families across the country are facing serious challenges. Summer should be a time when kids are enjoying their break, not worrying about where their next meal will come from. But for millions of families across the country, the end of the school year also means the loss of free and reduced-price school meals that many children rely on. At the same time, recent changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the nation's largest federal nutrition program, are making it harder for many families to access the support they need to put food on the table. As these changes take effect, more parents are facing impossible choices, and more children risk missing the nutritious meals they need to learn, grow and thrive. But right now, you can help us get through to the end of the summer. Thanks to Sheryl Sandberg & Tom Bernthal, when you give before our midnight deadline on July 31, your impact can be doubled.
These meals make a difference—it's what fuels kids so they can grow, play and thrive all summer long, and return to school ready to learn. Kids like siblings Gage and Leila, who spend the summer practicing their favorite sports. "Me and my dad will shoot hoops together," says Leila, "Or, my mom will throw a baseball to me, and I'll work on hitting and running bases." But all that activity takes fuel. Gage and Leila eat free meals at school when classes are in session, but when school lets out, the reliable meals suddenly stop. Their family visits the Central California Food Bank's First Fruits Market during the summer to help fill the gap. "Before the Market, there was some worry that we weren't going to have milk or we weren't going to have breakfast or be able to cook dinner," their mom Jessica says. "But now that we've learned about it, it's been comforting and life changing." Right now, you can help us keep food for summer meals stocked for families like Gage and Leila's. Make a gift now >> "When I have a good meal and I'm full, I'm just in a better mood. I'm more focused. I feel like I'm able to do more and think better and have a better mindset," says Leila. Working with Feeding America network partners, food banks and pantries across the country provide meals over the summer to help families when they don't have access to school meals. You can help. Can you make a $25 gift today while it can have double the impact? Thank you,
