This is how Latino communities are helping their neighbors facing hunger

| Hunger impacts every race, culture, and region in the U.S., and different people within those groups have unique experiences with hunger. Latino individuals are more than twice as likely to experience food insecurity compared to white, non-Hispanic people. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants, growing up in Brownsville, TX, I saw firsthand the barriers—like unemployment, low wages, and high costs—that keep millions, including Latino families, from getting the food they need to thrive. Black, Latino, and Native and Tribal leaders have been working for years to make change on the ground in their communities. When I became Senior Director of Community Engagement at Feeding America two years ago, my goal was clear: partner with these leaders and do everything I can to support their groundbreaking work. During Hispanic Heritage Month and year-round, we are honored to work alongside organizations like UnidosUS, Hispanic Federation, and NALCAB and celebrate the contributions of Latino communities to the movement to end hunger. Another inspiring example is the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, a Feeding America network partner. Together with local organizations, they are:
They're just one of hundreds of groups driving change for our Latino neighbors. I have seen the power of working with our neighbors who experience hunger, because they know best how to end it.
