Celebrate National Chianti Day with Santa Margherita

Sep 4, 2026, 4:44 PM•wineenthusiast

While Chianti has been at the heart of Tuscany for centuries, National Chianti Day was officially established in 2020 by Santa Margherita, to honor the enduring legacy of Chianti Classico and inspire appreciation for its exceptional wine making tradition and rich heritage. Celebrated each year in early September, the occasion coincides with Tuscany's grape harvest, making it the perfect time to raise a glass to one of Italy's most iconic wine regions.

LEARN MORE

The most emblematic wines of the famed region are the ones labeled "Classico." While broad Chianti DOCG wines can be produced in a wider area within Tuscany, a Chianti Classico DOCG must originate exclusively from the region's historic, rugged central zone between Florence and Siena. Santa Margherita Chianti Classico Riserva sits in the center of this original territory, with a blend of 85% native Sangiovese alongside 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The result is a dry, rich, and beautifully structured wine bursting with dark cherry, plum, and subtle nutty and smoky nuances—a food-friendly expression that pairs effortlessly with everything from wild mushrooms and coffee rubbed ribs to boldly seasoned, grilled swordfish.

Join us in celebrating Tuscan dining and the convivial Italian lifestyle on National Chianti Day. Raise a glass to tradition with the timeless elegance of Santa Margherita Chianti Classico Riserva, and discover why this remarkable wine continues to captivate wine lovers around the world.
