This storm has shifted things.

From tomorrow, Happy Valley beginner area hits new heights (and lengths!) — with the Double Happy chair joining the upper and lower carpets to deliver full-length beginner laps. It'll be a little narrow at the bottom to start, but that will build quickly in the days ahead.

The storm has also pushed us to the edge of another big milestone: The Rangatira chair is very, very close. Quite possibly 10am tomorrow morning close!

The top of Rockgarden trail has now been pushed in using snow stored from our Hut Flat whale, in addition to natural settled snow. The lower section will need a solid overnight snowmaking run to complete the full trail — not wall to wall, but enough to open in “sporty mode”, suitable for intermediate ability and above. Snowmaking conditions are favourable — and if we hit target, we’re aiming to load the Rangatira chair from 10am tomorrow.

If not tomorrow, Saturday night’s snowmaking window has us even more confident for a Sunday opening. Either way, you’ll get the official word in the 6:30am report on our website — including trail conditions.

We've also added a third sledding lane alongside Happy Valley, increasing daily capacity. More room. More runs. More laughs. As always, book your sessions online.

Yesterday was magic.

The kind of day that has you standing in the plaza, arms wide, catching flakes like it’s your first snowfall.

The snow blower was the Knoll Ridge Chalet soundtrack. Shovels hit snow — well before metal. Deltoids burned. Groomers rolled past to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Cat tracks were spotted up beyond Hut Flat.

So many laughs, so many photos — even the old hands were grinning like it was their first day. It was magic all over again. This is what we live for.

Focus after this weekend will shift to the upper mountain, with the Express trail and Delta chair and trails next in line. There’s still plenty of push work ahead, but with good snow on the ground and a strong snowmaking window ahead, our goal is a Friday 25 July opening for this terrain.

Nothing’s ever guaranteed up here — in our favour or not. But the team is giving it everything.

Is another Valley T-line shovel mission looming? We’ve all got our hands up for that.
