Kia ora -,
It sounds like something I'd proclaim every year...but last week I said to Steve (GM Operations), that our team are particularly epic in 2025.
We have had a huge early season, with record numbers for some of our guest categories, and Term 3 is a big one for us - with up to 2,000 school kids coming each week. From the dancing parking crew, to the snowmakers nerding out over the wet bulb... it's been going well. We've made our best snow in years and last Saturday was one of our biggest days this decade without needing to close the road.
But natural snowfall has been slim and lately we have been skiing on man made snow only. The team is proud that we have runs open for the full range of abilities at the moment. We had a good 15-20cm's of snow out of Friday's latest storm, which was then followed by some big wind stripping, but overall a slight net gain and we are now getting really close to a comeback for the Delta chair and the 2025 debut of the Valley T-bar! We will keep you updated on these through this week. Relatively, its still early and we are sure to see more snow and upper mountain skiing come online, the Knoll T-bar would follow after the Valley.
With the current state of play we have unfortunately had to farewell a few of our team members earlier than planned. They've been phenomenal and we are grateful for every bit of energy, skill and heart they've brought. We're grateful that they chose to work at Whakapapa. The rest of us will keep pushing to deliver a great winter and spring - I can see more snow in the forecast, and we'll grab every cm of momentum we can!
