Alban (@flightmussy), whose whole Product Hunt bio is "creating stuff for fun," built Detourmap: one interactive map of 70,000 places pulled from Wikidata, from waterfalls and catacombs to 584 ghost towns, each ranked on a fame scale that runs from world-famous down to hidden gem. Free, no account, no ads.

🔥 Our Take: Google Maps knows every one of these places and will never show them to you, because it ranks by popularity and popularity is a loop: famous places get the pins, the pins keep them famous. Detourmap's fame filter breaks the loop. Narrow it to hidden gems and the Eiffel Tower vanishes while a Soviet mining town on Svalbard stays. One commenter lost twenty minutes wandering Romanian castles. The whole dataset is downloadable and public domain. This is the good kind of internet.

Ben Senescu (@bensenescu) wanted his open source app to rank on Google, found every serious SEO tool starts north of $100 a month, and built OpenSEO in days: keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks and site audits, open source and self-hostable, or hosted from $10.

🔥 Our Take: Ahrefs and Semrush charge what they charge because they crawl their own indexes. Ben skips that entirely: the data comes from DataForSEO pay-as-you-go, and the product is the workflow around it. The reason this lands now is agents. Half the launch thread is people wiring it into Claude over MCP, and as one commenter put it, an agent with no data sounds exactly as certain as one with it. Ten dollars buys the difference.

Spycost doesn't block or decide anything, it just shows you the price's history and lets you draw the obvious conclusion. The cheapest purchase is still the one you skip.
