😸 Welcome back 1991

Flipcorder is a 1991 camcorder for your iPhone, so you film small moments through the day in twenty-second flips that all land on that day's dated tape, and at night you play the whole thing back as one home movie in VHS or MiniDV with the date stamp still on it. There is no editing anywhere in it, which means the chatter and the pauses and the fumble for the stop button all stay where they happened, and the tape runs out at thirty minutes because that is what a DV cassette held. Matt Brewer built it around the iPhone Duo, where the fold works as the power switch and the person you are filming watches themselves on the outer screen under a red REC light.

WhoIsCooking tells you which coding agent is heating your Mac, a question Activity Monitor has never been able to answer, since it shows you dozens of node and compiler processes and no temperature at all. It puts the chip temperature in the notch and groups each agent session with everything that session spawned into a single row, and the cool-down button shifts the busy work onto the efficiency cores instead of killing it, so the job keeps going and simply takes longer. Andrew Wilson watched four processes running flat out on his M5 drop from around 83°C to around 48°C that way, and he is upfront in the thread that it cannot touch GPU work or Apple's own processes.

Kiwi is an assistant that texts you before you ask it anything, so when tonight's flight slips it works out that you are landing around 1:20 and asks whether it should have a taxi waiting at arrivals, and saying yes is the entire job on your side. Aneesh Modi's argument is that the flights and the bills and the parcels all genuinely matter, and that mattering is exactly why each one keeps dragging you back to the screen. It handles the apps and the websites itself and will only tell you something is booked once the company has actually confirmed it, which is a narrower promise than most assistants are making at the moment.
