San Fran Sim is what Daniel Kempe (@danielkempe), a decade into founding actual startups (Quuu, SocialPacks), does to the tycoon genre: Theme Hospital meets RollerCoaster Tycoon, set in a lovingly legally-distinct San Francisco where you build your company among Goggle, Chirper, and Hacker Mews. 🔥 Our Take: The jokes get you in the door, especially the rival that undercuts you to "free, for now." But the sim underneath is real: raise prices and conversion drops, ship without QA and the bugs breed. Kempe has run actual startups, and it shows in what the game chooses to punish. It's never the rival that kills you, it's your own shortcuts, three sprints later. The shareable challenge seeds are the smart bit: everyone starts the same run and compares who went bankrupt in the funnier way. Theme Hospital figured this out in 1997: get the systems right and the satire writes itself. This one gets the systems right.

SoundPipe started because Chris Battarbee (@chrisbattarbee) just wanted his Mac, his iPad, and his Linux box playing through the same AirPods, which macOS flatly refuses to do: it's virtual audio routing where every route is a visible wire with live meters, the driver installs in one click with no kernel extensions, and it costs $10 once for three Macs.

🔥 Our Take: macOS still has no record button for what your Mac is playing and no way to pipe one app's sound into another, and Apple has let that stand for two decades. The gap built a cottage industry: BlackHole is free and leaves you hand-wiring devices in Audio MIDI Setup, Loopback is lovely and costs $99. Chris built the middle on purpose, and the trial is the tell: the full app in 20-minute sessions you can restart forever, so you prove it works on your exact setup before paying. That's a maker who knows audio drivers are trust purchases. Loopback's maker has owned this niche for years because nobody serious undercut them; ten dollars with visible wires is the first real attempt.

🔥 Our Take: Breathing apps quietly became a subscription business, which is a strange sentence to say out loud. Artur's design brief came straight from the delivery room: during a contraction nobody remembers "inhale 4, exhale 8," so you get a shape to follow, not instructions to recall. The pricing is the actual statement here. All seven techniques are free forever, including the pushing-stage ones, and Premium only changes how the app looks. The thing that helps you is free and the decoration costs money, the exact inverse of every meditation app on your phone. It was built for labor, but box breathing at 3am with a newborn is in scope too, which tells you he's lived the full timeline.
