Bloomberg reported this week that OpenAI is at work on its first piece of hardware: a screenless smart speaker. OpenAI is mum on the possibility, but if true, we’re here for anything that extends the OpenAI v. SpaceX slugfest. Rumor has it that Elon’s mega-company is working on its own non-phone AI device.

The offering would certainly help differentiate OpenAI from some of its competitors, all of which are pumping out new models faster than you can say “data center.”

For those keeping score, OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 and ChatGPT Work agent both landed last week, Meta dropped Muse Spark 1.1 right around the same time, Claude Sonnet 5 came out at the beginning of July, and Google is just chilling, probably waiting to drop Gemini 4 when you least expect it.

A few months back, Brila came out with a product that outsourced website-building to customers. Plug in your Google reviews, and it gives you landing-page copy that focuses on why customers actually choose you. This week, Brila added Yelp functionality — so everyone can know exactly what Karen thinks about your service. (She loves it, by the way.)

Brila’s not the only landing-page builder out there. Here are a few 2026 launches you might have missed:

• Fantasma is specific to Ghost’s CMS and aimed at pros who make landing pages for clients.
• LikeTony is an AI writer that takes your URL and converts the voice into something Tony Robbins would say. Or Elon Musk, Simon Sinek, Brené Brown, and any number of personas. 
• BeMorphy customizes your landing page to the person on it, showing different copy depending on which ad the user on the other end clicked.
• Flint leverages AI to spin up dozens of landing pages that fit your brand’s design.

This started with a small, recurring annoyance. My Mac kept dozing off at the worst possible moment, mid-download, mid-render, and increasingly mid-agent-run while I was away from the keyboard. The old fix was to caffeinate in a terminal, or an app that just holds the Mac awake forever. Neither is smart. Both are all or nothing.

And the moment I wanted more than that, the picture got messy. Most of the keep-awake tools I found were old and no longer maintained, closed source, or paid, and none of them did the whole job. To cover smart triggers, a headless virtual display, and the rest of the Mac optimizations, I would have needed four or five separate apps stitched together. I wanted one small, well-built system that handles it all.

What I really wanted was simple to say and surprisingly hard to find. I wanted to close my laptop in the middle of any work, keep it running even on battery with no cable attached, and have the screen stay off inside the closed lid so nothing sat there lit in my bag. And I wanted it to be smart about the other direction too, so that once the job actually finished, the Mac was allowed to sleep instead of burning power all night.

So I built the tool I wanted, one that keeps the Mac awake only when it actually should be, then lets it rest.

Don’t know if you’ve heard, but there are these things nowadays called AI agents. And they’re really, really good. So good, in fact, that you’ll be tempted to just sit back and let them do your job, run your life, take over your marriage, order you a cheese pizza, and drive you to Toledo.

Except maybe you shouldn’t totally give everything over to an AI agent. Engineering lead Omri Ben-Shoham is trying to figure out where the line is. He asks: “What's one thing you still won't let an AI agent do unsupervised, no matter how good it gets?”

So far, there are no horror stories in the responses, just some practical insights for builders about where things have broken down.
