First Cult Cabernet—And Two Stunning Values
Remarkable Trio from Beaulieu Vineyards
"These wines are the real deal and have the quality to back up their reputation.”
— Ryan Woodhouse, K&L Domestic Wine Buyer

Founded in 1900—and credited with Napa’s first “cult” Cabernet—Beaulieu Vineyard still defines Rutherford excellence at every tier, and this trio proves it. The 2019 Carneros Chardonnay is the insider score that stopped our team in its tracks: at $9.95, (elsewhere $24) it layers orchard fruit, honeysuckle, and BV’s hallmark flinty snap in a versatile white I’ve kept on hand for months. The 2021 Napa Cabernet delivers valley-floor depth with the poise Vinous hailed as “a stunning value,” punching well above its weight—a crowd-pleaser through and through. And the 98-point 2018 Georges de Latour Private Reserve is nothing short of jaw-dropping—in my book, Rutherford Cabernet simply doesn’t get any better. Line these up and you have a masterclass in BV’s 125-year pedigree at prices we may never see again. In an era marked by more and more expensive wines from fledgling producers, from $10 to $150, these wines are the real deal and have the quality to back up their reputation.

A Napa Valley classic with a fun twist. This rich and flavorful wine has pleased generations of Chardonnay enthusiasts. BV has access to incredible fruit, with this rendition being sourced from their Los Carneros vineyards on the Napa side of the appellation. The result is consistently delicious and quaffable wines. This Carneros/Napa Chard includes a good dollop of Viognier in the blend adding a lovely exotic floral top note to the wine that dances amongst the ripe orchard fruits, poached pear, nectarine, honeysuckle and white peach. There's a distinctive flinty mineral undertone, too. Textured and ample on the palate, with nice juicy acidity to boot. There's a lot to love here especially at our way too-low-to-show Insider's Advantage discount price!

"Dried apple and pineapple with hints of coconut, steel and some flint. Full-bodied and tight with intensity and power. This will open nicely with bottle age. Try after 2022." (07/2021) 92 points
Vinous:
"The 2019 Chardonnay is a unique wine, as it includes a fair amount of Viognier that adds pretty floral and tropical overtones. Apricot, mint, tangerine oil, chamomile and dried flowers all open nicely in the glass. (AG)" (01/2021)

James Suckling:
"Very aromatic and vivid with hints of ink, stone and blackberry with some black currant. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a fresh, juicy finish. Nice fluidity to it. Lovely texture at the end. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with Petite Sirah and others. Drink or hold." 92 points
Vinous:
"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a fabulous wine in its peer group and a stunning value one of the best in Napa Valley. There are basically no Napa Valley wines at the price point, especially for this level of quality. A rush of dark red cherry, plum, spice, leather and pipe tobacco immediately announces the 2021. Racy and exuberant to the core, with terrific balance, this is an absolute pleasure to taste. Most of this fruit is from estate vineyards in Rutherford and Calistoga." 92 points
Wine Enthusiast:
"A blend of vineyards from throughout Napa Valley, this Cabernet is made to showcase the potential of the region with approachability and detail. A mix of bright cherries and succulent black fruits is lifted by warming spices and candied violet aromatics. Freshly cracked pepper carries into the lengthy and palate-cleansing finish. Enjoy with a savory meal."
2018 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour - Private Reserve" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

It's early going, but the 2018 may well prove to be the finest vintage of this wine in many decades, if not of all time. The perfect growing season in 2018, plus a few subtle tweaks in the cellar, seem to have paid off with this monumental release that is one of the wines of the vintage. With a pedigree dating back to the inaugural 1936 bottling, as BV writes in their notes, the Georges de Latour - Private Reserve was Napa Valley's first cult Cabernet. Fruit for this iconic bottling is meticulously selected from BV's original ranches on Rutherford's western bench. These vineyards, aptly named BV Ranches No. 1 and No. 2, are the same sites originally planted by Georges de Latour in the early 1900s. In an era marked by more and more expensive wines from fledgling producers, this wine is the real deal and has the quality to back up its reputation. In my opinion, Rutherford Cab doesn't get any better.

James Suckling:
"Blackberry, blackcurrant and mint with some sage and crushed-stone undertones. Full-bodied with chewy tannins that are in-check and nicely polished. Smoke, toasted oak and bark at the end, complementing the fresh yet ripe fruit." (08/2021) 98 points
Vinous:
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2018 is a fine addition to the lineage of one of Napa Valley's most historic wines. Inky red fruit, chocolate, leather and licorice all open in the glass. Aeration brings out floral top notes, raspberry and a hint of blood orange. There is plenty of depth, but the tannins are finer than they were a few years ago. Shorter time on the skins and a reduction in barrel fermentations really allow the pedigree of these Rutherford sites to come through. The 2018 is sensational. (AG)" (01/2021) 97+ points
Jeb Dunnuck:
"The flagship 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges De Latour Private Reserve is a gorgeous wine from this team that's reminiscent of the 2016, if not slightly more tannic. Blackcurrants, cassis, tobacco leaf, and nicely integrated oak all make an appearance, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a beautiful sense of purity and freshness, flawless balance, and a great finish. It has plenty of structure and, like a lot of 2018s, not a huge amount of baby fat, which gives it a firmer, more age-worthy vibe. While it's unquestionably approachable today, do your best to hide bottles for 4-5 years, and it should have a gradual evolution over the coming 20-25 years. I followed this bottle for multiple days and it only improved. It's brilliant, seamless wine in the making. (JD)" (05/2022)

Wine Enthusiast:
"The famous wine lives up to its historic promise in this wonderfully complex and structured vintage, the wine showing an abundance of tension and youthful grip. Earthy in dried herb, cedar and sage, it shares notes of black currant, cassis and forest within a textured and brightly layered foundation of elegant age-ablity. *Cellar Selection* (VB)" (11/2021)
