![]() K&L Italian Newsletter Orazio Campoli, K&L Italian Wine Buyer From iconic names to emerging stars, Italy continues to offer some of the most thrilling wines in the world. This curated collection highlights everything from pedigreed Prosecco and Alpine gems to collectible Barolo and hidden treasures from Abruzzo. Whether you're looking to stock up on everyday favorites or add a few cellar-worthy bottles, these standout selections are not to be missed.
Foss Marai: Pedigreed Prosecco from ValdobbiadeneWhen we think about Prosecco few names carry as much pedigree as Foss Marai. Unlike the industrially produced bottles that have flooded the global marketplace, Foss Marai has built its reputation via a continuing pursuit of excellent terroir-driven wines that truly express their place of origin: Valdobbiadene DOCG, Italy’s most prestigious appellation for Prosecco. Founded in 1986 by Carlo and Adriana Biasiotto, the winery is still run by the original family, which is rare nowadays in Prosecco. I found on their website their motto and I love it: “Leniter in itinere”—which means “slowly on the road”—a motto that reflects the vinification practice of this family, who are known to carbonate their wine slowly to create a mousse that really only a few Prosecco out there can achieve. Foradori Brings Out the Best in Italian Alpine Grape TeroldegoConsidered by most to be the most important biodynamic producer in the north of Italy, Foradori has completely changed the perception of what a natural wine can be. These are wines that make you feel the terroir like no other. I genuinely love this producer. Teroldego is often called the “Prince of Trentino,” a grape that thrives in the region’s high-altitude, alluvial soils, producing wines of deep color, vibrant acidity, and mineral complexity. Foradori’s vineyards are located in Campo Rotaliano, a small plateau nestled between the Dolomites. Surprisingly enough, it is one of the warmest areas of Italy in summer and it has cool Alpine breezes. This yin-yang climate allows the Teroldego grapes to achieve a balance of concentration, freshness, and structure unlike anywhere else in Italy. We have three different expressions of this grape from Foradori in stock, and they are all worth exploring. Read more here about the fascinating wines of this pioneering producer. ![]()
Amorotti in Loreto Aprutino: Abruzzo’s Hidden JewelAmorotti’s wines are some of the most exciting to emerge from Abruzzo. Biodynamically farmed and crafted with authenticity, they honor tradition while offering a fresh, vibrant expression of the region. From the village of Loreto Aprutino—celebrated for its exceptional terroir—Amorotti produces pure, expressive wines shaped by high elevation and cooling sea breezes. The result is a lineup of smoky, spicy bottlings with bright fruit, striking minerality, and remarkable complexity. A defining feature of Amorotti is its near-mystical approach to winemaking. Gaetano Carboni relies entirely on spontaneous fermentation, guided by the native yeasts and bacteria that thrive in his ancient cellar. Designed to shine alongside food, these wines are ideal for adventurous drinkers and those who appreciate elegant, thought-provoking wines. Barale Barolo: A Brand New Piedmont Producer to WatchEleonora and Gloria Barale are the fifth generation to hold the reins at Barale Fratelli, a winery whose history in Barolo runs 150+-years deep. The fact that they are not fratelli (brothers) at all, but sorelle (sisters), reflects the new generation in Barolo: women holding leadership roles in what was once a very male-dominated industry, who use modern technology and farming practices but traditional winemaking methods to create flat-out fantastic wines. The sisters learned their winemaking style from their father, Sergio, who learned it from his. Aside from more modern equipment, their wine is made in the traditional way: large oak vats for fermentation and botti for aging instead of barriques to preserve the softer, sweeter natural tannins of the grape. Super Tuscan Stars: Highly Rated & Incredibly Sought-AfterWe won't say much here. These wines represent the pinnacle of this sought-after region—reference-point expressions that have not only defined but helped shape the canon. Don't miss this opportunity to add these rarities to your collection.
