The PGA Tour playoffs are coming this month, and the Solheim Cup and Presidents Cup in September will bring plenty of excitement. If I'm being honest, though, I'm still a little bummed the 2026 major season is over. As someone who helps oversee Golf Digest's major championship coverage, these events are my rocket fuel, and this year's men's and women's majors held up their end of the bargain on intrigue. Speaking of majors and intrigue, Jamie Kennedy has done some nice reporting on the situation at Muirfield. The famed Scottish venue (No. 3 on our World's 100 Greatest Courses ranking) hasn't hosted the Open Championship since 2013 and doesn't look any closer to being picked by the R&A as a future venue. Why? We've got the backstory.

Sahith Theegala made history Thursday, then just missed making more on the last hole. He birdied the first six straight holes of the Wyndham Championship, tying the PGA Tour record for consecutive birdies to start a round. He then made bogey on the seventh at Sedgefield, then made birdies on 8 and 9 to turn in seven-under 28, becoming the eighth player this year to shoot that number over nine holes. On the back ... a different story. Theegala parred 10-17, then hit his approach to 18 inches on the 18th hole for his lone birdie on the back. Had he made par on 18, Theegala would've been only the third player in tour history over the last two decades to make no pars on one side and only pars on the other side. An opening 62 will work under any circumstances.

A new way to play golf is coming to the U.S. If you're on Golf Twitter (or Instagram) enough, there's a good chance you've seen Golfzon's "Golf City" concept. Think TGL, a golf experience where longer shots are hit into a simulator, but then you play out short-game shots and putts on a synthetic green. It looks pretty cool. And now, Sports Business Journal's Josh Carpenter reports one is coming to Nashville, the company's first U.S. location, later this year. So the "Music City" will now be a Golf City as well. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Dustin Johnson still has his fastball. The two-time major champion has made a career out of nonchalance. Over the years, we've cataloged countless "DJ-isms"—some simple, some profound and some a strange combination of the two. Although his best playing days are behind him, it appears his IDGAF attitude is still in peak form. That much was obvious this week when Johnson openly admitted that he didn't show up to LIV Golf's emergency players-only meeting on Tuesday.

DJ got to this week's Trump Bedminster stop on Wednesday, around the same time CEO Scott O'Neil made the potentially seismic announcement that LIV Golf had secured a primary investor for the 2027 season. Asked how he felt about all the hand-wringing and uncertainty he missed while away (Johnson was seen on vacation in Greece with his wife Paulina Gretzky over the weekend), the former World No. 1 simply said, "Um, for me it's not a big deal. I just gotta go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens and then I'll figure it out." He's still got it, folks.
