The inconvenient truth about getting better is that it's kinda boring.
Really boring, actually.
Part of the culture of golf is believing that unlocking the secret to golf is one swing tip away. The reality is that while swing tips often help, they rarely fix everything. And the truth is, the ones that work the best aren't especially interesting.
Getting better at golf is a process. One that requires some discipline to do the unglamorous stuff. Scottie Scheffler is perhaps the best example.
Inspired by his success, I asked a small group of some of the best golf coaches on the planet a simple question:
What's something boring that helps golfers more than they realize?
The answers didn't disappoint. I especially liked Jason Baile's answer:
"Rehearse your swing slowly with your eyes shut, checking whether you can actually feel your body do what you think it's doing. Can you really think about your golf swing with your eyes closed and move the club the way you want it to? Can you feel your tilts and bends? Can you feel your rotation? Do you know where your pressure is?"
I know what I'll be doing before my round this weekend.
