This is the epitome of a first-world problem. Nobody’s going to feel sorry for me for sitting in traffic after playing an elite golf course. But if you’ve ever played golf on Long Island, or dreamed of doing so, you can probably relate.
Long Island traffic is right up there with Los Angeles traffic. I’ve had three-and-a-half-hour drives home to North Jersey after morning rounds on Long Island. It’s unavoidable. It has also discouraged me from accepting other invitations to play there, knowing I’ll likely spend more time in the car than on the course.
I might’ve solved this problem, and I hope the solution can help you, too. I was recently invited to Meadow Brook Club, a Dick Wilson gem on Long Island that has been on my bucket list for years. My colleague, who’s a member, had been inviting me for three years. I kept declining until he suggested a possible cheat code: take the train.
It’s a simple but brilliant way to avoid all that time in the car. I’m happy to say it worked. I’ve also outlined other great courses on Long Island where it could work just as well. Check out my article below for tips on navigating the train successfully.
