More people are experiencing hunger right now than at any other time in the last decade—including 1 in 5 kids. Many of those kids count on free school breakfast and lunch to stay nourished. But those meals aren't available when schools are closed—leaving families to fill the gap or face hunger every single weekend.
One of Anwar's favorite things to do for his family is cook. But when he lost his job at a gas station, even though he started driving for a rideshare company, high costs made it difficult to get enough to eat for his family of six. Anwar now visits the Atlanta Community Food Bank's distribution at his kids' school to grab some essentials and make sure everyone in the family has enough to eat.
