The U.S. produces 92 billion pounds of food that goes uneaten, never purchased or simply unpicked every year. We're the country's largest food rescue organization with over 4 billion pounds rescued last year alone, working with food manufacturers, grocery stores, farmers and more to rescue even more food and connect our neighbors with the good, nutritious food they need to thrive.
Every one of us can find a way to help. Arthur discovered Feeding San Diego's food rescue and volunteer program at just 14 years old, and he now volunteers there. "It all began in 8th grade. I noticed a lot of my classmates didn't like the food. They just threw it away without realizing the huge consequences of this," he shared. At Feeding San Diego—a member of the Feeding America network—he's since taken on a volunteer position leading the food bank's Produce Pantry, where he's welcomed plenty of friends and classmates to join him in volunteering.
