After nearly fifty years at Greeleyville Primary School in SC, Joanna Edwards understands the importance of kids getting enough to eat for school: "You can't focus if you're hungry," she said. "You can't function without a good, nutritious meal.
Ms. Edwards has been a teacher's assistant, fifth grader teacher, bus driver, and even worked in the front office. She's also helped start a school pantry and set up a food distribution out of the school parking lot by partnering with Lowcountry Food Bank. "When the kids are fed and they feel good about themselves, their attendance is better. Their self-esteem is better," Ms. Edwards said. "The joy is seeing the kids happy, seeing them able to learn."
