*** Sample a pair of wines from a hidden gem in Italy founded by the Biondi Santi Family!
*** After that, taste a pair of wines from another Brunello superstar that has earned massive press for years
PLUS, a pair of wines from two under-the-radar estates you just have to taste to believe!
Join us for an unforgettable journey through Tuscany at the brand-new Capon's Chophouse in Hackensack, NJ, featuring an incredible selection of Italian wines from some of my all-time favorite producers: Castello di Montepo (founded by the Biondi Santi family!), Isola delle Falcole, La Massa, and San Filippo!
From the elegance of the Isola delle Falcole Gran Selezione 2021 and La Massa IGT 2022 to the rich, expressive Sassoalloro 2023 and Sassoalloro Oro 2021, the evening builds to two remarkable Brunello di Montalcino bottlings from San Filippo: the 2019 Brunello dei Comunali and the 2020 Brunello Le Lucere. It’s a rare opportunity to experience the diversity, depth, and character of Tuscany through an impressive collection of wines, all enjoyed alongside an incredible multi-course dinner.

Weekend Wine Sampling!
Saturday, September 12th, from 12pm to 3pm!
Come down to Wine Library this Saturday, September 12th, to sample a stunning line-up of wines!
|
|
|
Sampling Selection #1:
2024 Auld Family Wines Wilberforce Riesling
$18.99 on sale
In a line-up of heavy hitters, this is the light and refreshing wine at the table this Saturday! This Riesling is made from a single vineyard in the Eden Valley of South Australia, and it is just lovely!
Intense floral and citrus aromas, with flavours of stone fruit, green apple, lemon and honey blossom. On the palate, it has a lovely balance of ripe fruit and refreshing acidity, with a fine mineral character and a long, crisp finish.
This is a fun one and perfect during these warm September days!
95 Points Sam Kim, Wine Orbit:
"Beautifully poised and finely expressed, the wine shows green apple, nectarine, lemon pith, and white floral notes on the nose, followed by a linear palate offering excellent focus and drive. Superbly structured by vibrant acidity, finishing long and refined. At its best: 2027 to 2039."
-------
Sampling Selection #2:
2021 La Scoperta Barolo
$29.99 on sale
Barolo at this price is nearly impossible to find, especially from the remarkable 2021 vintage!
La Scoperta offers a traditional, food-friendly Barolo style, balancing Nebbiolo’s natural acidity and tannic grip with attractive fruit and warming spice.
While still young, this is already drinking beautifully and you have to try it!
"Complex and refined bouquet with aromas of dried roses, red berries, truffle, and spices. On the palate it is full-bodied, well-structured, and harmonious, with firm yet elegant tannins and a long, persistent finish." - Winery
95 Points The Wine Journal
-------
Sampling Selection #3:
2020 Michele Castellani I Castei Amarone Campo Casalin
$39.99 on sale
94-point Amarone for under $40? Yes please!
This is a universally loved red wine that’s loaded with deliciousness through its elegant, rich, vibrant body!
If you are not familiar with Amarone, then this is a must-try that will lead you down an amazing road of new flavors!
94 Points James Suckling:
"Take time to allow the full spectrum of aromas to exude from the glass. Fresh raspberries, currants, currant leaves, a hint of red licorice and even a tinge of eucalyptus. More if you linger. Full-bodied with plenty of spicy fruit and firm tannins, creating a vivid feel and drive on the palate. Licorice flavors to finish. Good length. Drink or hold."
-------
Sampling Selection #4:
2023 Le Pich Golden Eagle Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
$39.99 on sale
This is going to be the star of the tasting table this Saturday! A rich and polished expression of Napa Cabernet from Le Pich!
100% Cabernet Sauvignon, offering the classic Napa profile of ripe black fruit with aromas and flavours of blackberry, black plum and black cherry, complemented by graphite, floral notes, spice and hints of melted chocolate. It has the full-bodied richness expected from the region, while maintaining balance and freshness.
A perfect bottle of wine to grab for your next tailgate or BBQ!
95 Points Decanter:
"Positively soaring out of the glass with refined, ripe, dark berry fruits, elegant cedarwood notes, and powerful tannins that are superfine, creating a solid foundation to support all this ripe, generous and pure crunchy black and red fruit character. Complex notes of paprika smoke and unsweetened cocoa powder, along with graphite and anise nuances, infuse the long, full-bodied finish. For all the wine's generosity there's good tension here. A great new release from Julien Fayard."

This Week's Gourmet Department Highlights!
|
|
- Vorarlberger Bergkase -
$24.99 per pound
Traditional Austrian mountain cheese made exclusively from raw cow’s milk in the Alpine region of Vorarlberg, where it carries the European Union’s Protected Designation of Origin preserving centuries-old cheesemaking traditions.

The milk comes from cows fed a natural diet of fresh alpine grasses, herbs, and hay, with silage strictly prohibited. During its maturation, each wheel is carefully hand-scrubbed with salt water, developing its distinctive brownish-yellow natural rind and firm, smooth, sometimes flaky texture, with only a few small holes throughout.
The flavor is wonderfully rich, nutty, and malty, with younger cheeses offering delicate notes of citrus, honey, and sour cream, while longer-aged wheels become more intense, spicy, and pleasantly pungent.
------
La Tur is an irresistibly decadent, soft-ripened Italian cheese from Piedmont, crafted by Caseificio dell'Alta Langa.
Made from an equal blend of cow’s, sheep’s, and goat’s milk, it boasts a luxuriously creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture beneath its distinctive wrinkled, edible bloomy rind.
Rich, buttery, and wonderfully complex, La Tur is an unforgettable cheese for any occasion.
------
- Roth Butterkase -
$6.49 each

This Old World favorite is a creamy, semi-soft cow's milk cheese made in Wisconsin.
The name translates to "butter cheese," and while it contains no actual butter, it features a rich, buttery taste and a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Excellent for snacking and cooking, it complements a wide range of flavors.
------
- Ellsworth Cheddar Cheese Curds (New Package Design!) -
$7.99 each
Most cheese fans consider Ellsworth's curds the gold standard in the cheese curd world.
What makes their curds stand out? Hard work from family dairy farms, over 60 years of cheese-making experience, and a passion for cheese made in a small town in Wisconsin called Ellsworth, the official Cheese Curd Capital.
