Especially since yesterday's email sold out in 13 minutes and many didn't get a chance to try yet another amazing wine from Portugal.

Today's wine is as rare as it is exceptional: the 2018 Quinta da Pellada Carrocel!

This stunning wine is produced in small quantities, hand-harvested, and only made in the best vintages. For 2018, only 50 six-pack cases were imported, and I've managed to get my hands on just a few. Trust me—you do not want to miss this!

If you're not familiar with the Dão region, it’s time to change that. This area of Portugal is home to some of the most balanced, elegant, and age-worthy reds you’ll find anywhere in the world. And Quinta da Pellada is at the forefront of that revolution. Álvaro Castro’s winemaking here is legendary—his two properties, Pellada and Saes, are the stuff of wine connoisseur's dreams.

So let's break this down on why you need this wine.

For starters, it’s made from five ancient clones of Touriga Nacional, one of the country’s most iconic grapes, grown in granite-and-quartz soils that impart both structure and elegance. This wine is their top-tier offering, and it shows.

If you’re a Bordeaux lover, the Carrocel is going to blow your mind—it has all the complexity and finesse of a world-class wine but with a distinct Portuguese soul.

But here's the kicker: this wine is still young, and it’s got decades of life ahead of it. With just a few hours of decanting, you’ll be amazed by its layers of dark fruit, spice, and that signature Dão freshness. And if you’ve got the patience to cellar it for a few years? You’ll be rewarded beyond measure.

"Just gorgeous, this is the one that has the most finesse, the most flavor and the longest finish of the group in this report. Developing well, this is still very youthful and vibrant, even if the tannins are mostly ripe. This graceful and wonderfully elegant wine relies on understatement and freshness, but the more you drink it, the more you'll want. For one thing, it is just delicious, with blackberries, plums and occasional red fruits. This will age and develop. It is a polished wine."
