Good Morning Sabah People,
Every year, around this time, some number of folks from the Sabah team are returning from a Mediterranean getaway. In this case, Ari & Adri, overseas in London for a work trip, stole away for a few days to Marseille.
They wrote about their long weekend in that vibrant city below.
Summer may be almost over... but we hear Marseille is just as nice come Fall ;) Enjoy!
Sincerely, The Sabah Dealer --

London to Marseille is a short hop. At 1.5 hours by plane, if you take the early flight, you'll be swimming in turquoise seas by noon. And that's exactly what we did.
20 min from the Old Port, we arrived at Tuba Club -- a 5 room boutique hotel with a restaurant near the Calanaques National Park and overlooking the fishing village of Les Goudes. The restaurant is open to the public and with stairs down to the sea -- just bring your towel, order a Spritz & lunch, and enjoy a swim!
After spending the whole day at Tuba, it was time to check in to our AirBNB in the Old Port in the 6th ARR. The apartment belonged to an artist couple that did a complete gut renovation to an historic Marseille building. Thankfully, they kept a lot of the origial charm intact. The duplex had a stunning view of the city meaning it was worth the 5 flights of stairs UP!

The first evening in Marseille, we had a very special dinner at Douceur Piquante, specializing in Comorian cuisine. Located near Lycée Thiers, Nadjatie warmly welcomes guests into her restaurant with exotic treats that add zest to daily life. The kitchen blends market-fresh ingredients with spices from the Horn of Africa, a tribute to her Comorian heritage.
The next morning, we walked to Pétrin Couchette for an espresso and pastry. A specialty coffee shop, everything is baked fresh daily with a focus on seasonal ingredients. Nestled into a beautiful square, it's also a great place to watch Marseille wake up!
That afternoon, we planned to hike to one of the Calanques. Before our hike, we made a quick stop at Cécile Food Club to pick up sandwiches to go. They were the perfect treat after an hour walk to Calanque de Sormiou.
After a day of swimming and then an early evening nap, it was dinner at Epicerie L'IDEAL, where we had one of the best Shakshukas .... ever!
Before bed, we found ourselves in an outdoor jam session where everyone dances the night away. We love to dance so, of course, we partook. You can find this crew many nights, jamming away, along the wide stairway leading to the Cours Julien neighborhood.
On our Last day, we woke up early and headed to "brunch" in the Malmousque neighborhood. Café de La Traverse is housed inside a design firm & gallery space & features rotating chefs in residence. This was a culinary highlight as Chef Morgane Sanguedolce was in residence. Her food was the perfect start to our last day in Marseille.
Chef Morgane also gave us a reco to her local beach so that's where we spent the last day by the sea. I can't share the name because I'm supposed to keep it a secret ;)
Finally, we finished our last day with one of the most delicious pizzas I've ever had from L'Eau à la Bouch. A small joint with minimal seating, find a place outside and watch the sun go down.
Do we recommend a trip to Marseille? Absolutely -- it's eclectic, vibrant, gritty, full of life & delicious food... add all that into the fact you're never more than a few steps away from a refreshing dip in the sea. What could be better! We can't wait to get back.
