Color moves in mysterious ways.

For our latest Artist Series, we invited Maisie Broome, the artist behind Myfawnwy, to bring her mesmerizing marbling practice to a very different kind of canvas: our undyed El Paso Babas.

The Cosmic Collection features three original compositions by Maisie, inspired by recurring themes of color, pattern, nature & emotion in her work.

Each pair is made to order and individually marbled by hand in her Queens studio, where her designs are transferred directly onto the leather — meaning no two pairs will ever be exactly alike.

Alongside the Babas, we’ve created a silk bandana made in Como, Italy, and a special pair of socks knitted in Porto, Portugal — both featuring Maisie’s original artwork.

The Cosmic Babas.

Meet the Myfawnwy Sun Baba, Eye Baba, and Flower Baba — three one-of-a-kind designs created by Maisie for the Cosmic Collection.

Once you place your order, Maisie gets to work. Each composition begins with paint, floated and drawn by hand across a marbling bath before the Baba is carefully dipped in, transferring the design directly onto the leather.

From there, air, heat, movement, and the flow of the dye all play a part in the finished piece. The process is fluid and unpredictable by nature, ensuring no two pairs are ever the same.

Meet Maisie & Her Process.

We recently visited Maisie in her studio to learn more about her work and watch her bring her distinctive marbled patterns to life for this special collection.

We learned that Maisie has spent the past 12 years exploring the possibilities of marbling. The process is fluid by nature. Pigments float and shift across the surface, responding to the movement of the materials, the temperature of the room, and even the air and wind around them.

That unpredictability is part of what makes the process so special, or like magic as Maisie says. No two patterns move in exactly the same way, and no two pieces can ever be perfectly repeated. It’s that element of chance that makes each finished piece feel so unique.
