Happy New Year Sabah People,

One of my favorite parts of our business, especially with the global perspective we have, is getting to break bread with all of our various collaborators and partners around the world. Whether that’s sitting down for lahmacun & ayran with our shoemakers in Antep, or getting to know Peppe, who produces our Alto Boots, over a glass of red wine & Vincisgrassi in Le Marche.

Not only is it fun, it’s also the work – the work of building and deepening relationships that make business more meaningful and more impactful.

So here’s a note to showcase some of my favorite meals from this year… in Gaziantep, El Paso, Monte San Giusto, Tavullia, and Mérida.

Afiyet olsun, buen provecho, and buon appetito. Cheers to another year of building business, and making more great shoes, one meal at a time!

Meals around the world.

Sisal, Mexico: Fried fresh fish and ceviche at Pescadería Doña Rita.

Rome, Italy: A classic Roman Carbonara at Trattoria Pennestri - a wonderful restaurant I discovered earlier this year!

Gaziantep, Turkey: Soğan kebabı, a wintertime dish when small onions are in season - prepared at the workshop. My absolute favorite taste from Antep.

Gaziantep, Turkey: Lahmacun, made and baked fresh, enjoyed with a cold glass of ayran; served at the workshop.

Mérida, Mexico: A beautiful, fresh desyuno ("breakfast") at Pancho Maiz.

Mérida, Mexico: Cochinita Pibil tacos in Mercado Lucas de Galvez (above & below).

Le Marche, Italy: Bolognese Macerata at a little hilltop Trattoria for which I misplaced the name near where we make our Sandals in Italy. Truly incredible!

El Paso, Texas: Cold beers & tacos at Taconeta, a modern taqueria near our workshop.

Gaziantep, Turkey: A selection of kebab at the one & only Kebapçı Ömer.
