Hi Sabah People:
Our new line of sandals, which we call the Lido (Italian for 'beach') and Porto (Italian for 'Port'), are handmade in a small workshop in Tavullia, Italy.
I had the pleasure of spending a few days there earlier this year with Daniele, the passionate owner behind the operation, and his team.
When we set out to make anything at Sabah, particularly footwear, it starts with craft. Like Turkey, like Texas, our Italian shoemakers have honed deep skills over decades (and generations!) and employ very specific artisanal processes to bring our shoes made there to life. The Lido & Porto are no different, the craftsmanship used to make them is totally unique to Daniele's workshop.
And the results are truly remarkable -- our Lido & Porto sandals are unbelievably comfortable & supportive. They have an aesthetic that's chic & artisanal, clearly hand-wrought. And they're going to last a long, long time thanks to the handmade construction, use of 100% vegetable tanned Italian leathers, and sturdy rubber outsole.
Last but not least, these sandals are highly functional. I just traveled from NYC to London in a pair of Black Lidos (with socks!), and I'll be wearing both styles later this week to Menorca for a wedding. The Portos for short hikes to rocky beaches, and the Lidos for the cocktail party and afternoons by the pool.
This email shares more images and details about the incredible craft behind our new sandals.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
The Sabah Dealer

Our Sandals are made in Tavullia - a charming town nestled into the hills of Italy's Marche region. Not far from the Adriatic coast, it's quite literally where green hillside meets blue sea.
|
|
Craft means hands, faces & names. I had the pleasure of visiting the shoemakers of Tavullia - a workshop full of talented men & women; smiling as they work. The atmosphere was uplifting!

Our Porto & Lido Sandals both employ a slotted construction -- meaning the upper leather is slotted into the sole. This allows the shoes to really hug your feet, providing incredible support and meaning our Sandals will get more comfortable as they find the form of your feet with every step.

One of the processes that sets our Lido & Porto Sandals apart is how they're dyed.
Originally made with undyed, veg tan leather -- every set of uppers is dip-dyed by hand. The result is a color that's rich, deep and, most importantly, allows the leather's characteristics to really shine. It's not your typical 'covered' or 'finished' leather.
|
|
After being dyed, every set of uppers is then tumbled with pumice stones & water to soften the edges for maximum comfort, adding a hammered and burnished sheen giving the sandals an even more artisanal feel. It's truly a one-of-a-kind process that delivers a beautiful result.

I'm writing this note from Chiltern Street -- where we've had our little shop in London for 6 years now! I traveled here with a few pairs of our shoes, including my LIDO in NERO (Black), which I wore with socks to the Drake's store on Savile Row. What a great store, btw!
