Good Morning Sabah People, Now Live ⚡️ A pair like never before, a project we've been working on with our talented friend, Daiki Suzuki, Founder & Designer of Engineered Garments.
Inspired by traditional English footwear, Daiki designed two unique takes on the classic Sabah - one with decorative broguing (available on preorder only) and the other with broguing and beautiful hand-pressed steel & brass studwork (in-stock online & at Sabah House New York).
This exceptionally unique Sabah is made using our classic Beirut Black leather with a matching jet black drum-dyed sole, stitching thread and outsole, the first time we’ve ever done something of the sort.
A couple weeks ago, we visited Daiki & his team at his design studio in Long Island City. We talked collaboration, inspiration and travel -- the conversation recounted below.
Otherwise, find your EG x Sabah online at the Sabah Portal or at Sabah House New York starting today. Available in very limited quantities.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
The Sabah Dealer --

What inspired you to want to make a Sabah with studs & perforations (broguing)?
We have long been fond of brogue-shoe details and have adapted those elements across many products over the years—shoes, sneakers, and more. This approach is very much a signature design language of EG.
Because of the Sabah's simple form, we thought it would be interesting to incorporate brogue-style perforations— the hallmark of traditional British country shoes. From there, we also considered adding studs as a slightly punk, more fashion-forward accent.

How do you imagine it being worn and where?
I imagine people finding their own interesting ways to wear these shoes in a variety of settings.
They work casually, much like a loafer, but this time of year they could also substitute for something more dressed-up—like pumps or velvet slippers—at a party or even in slightly formal situations. Unexpected pairings are especially appealing. Of course, they also look great with jeans or army pants for an easy, everyday style.

Anything else you want us to know?
For many years, I’ve been observing traditional Turkish slip-on shoes like the Babouche, as well as the classic shallow-toe Belgian loafers. I’ve always wanted to take these simple shoe forms as a base and create something special with interesting design details. Meeting Sabah finally gave me the opportunity to bring this long-held vision to life.
