Good Morning Sabah People,

This weekend at Sabah House New York: Milagritos by Obra.

Our friends Renata Bricio and Gabrielle Vassallo of Obra are taking over the shop Saturday & Sunday from 12-4PM, bringing along antique silver milagrito charms and a special collection of objects sourced between New York and Mexico City.

Pick your milagritos and Renata & Gabrielle will hand-sew them onto Babets, hats, bandanas, peshtemals and a few other Sabah things. Come make something extra special... oh, and sip a margarita too!

Obra is Renata and Gabrielle’s New York and Mexico City-based creative studio – a collection of handmade objects, homewares and accessories born from a shared love of craft, collecting and making things by hand.

They’re also longtime friends of Sabah – producers, collaborators and generally wonderful people we’ve worked with in many ways over the years.

Meet Gabrielle and Renata.

After years of working independently, Renata and Gabrielle discovered that bringing their ideas and abilities together opened up an entirely new creative rhythm.

“We realized we share so many similar values, cultural backgrounds, and work ethics – and that we’re a really compatible partnership. Our productivity and creativity have grown exponentially by working on projects together.”

In Spanish, obra means “work” or “a piece of work” – a fitting name for a studio whose interests span art, food, fashion, interiors, objects, and experiences.

Renata is a multidisciplinary creative working across art, food, fashion, interiors, and cultural experiences. Gabrielle is a creative producer whose time between California, New York, and Mexico City has shaped her eye and longstanding connection to Mexico. Together, their work is rooted in craft, collecting, and creating thoughtful experiences and objects.

Ahead of this weekend’s event, we spent the day with Renata and Gabrielle as they prepared – starting at Gabrielle’s Lower East Side apartment, then shopping the Flower District (always fun!), and returning downtown to paint and prepare pieces for the weekend.

They also showed us how they hand-sew tiny antique silver milagrito charms onto Babets, transforming each pair into something personal and entirely one of a kind.

We can’t wait to welcome Obra to our Sabah House on Bleecker Street this Saturday and Sunday. See you there!
