Good Morning Sabah People,

A few weeks back, we introduced the Lockhart Sabah: a matte black with a distressed finish; an instant classic that utilizes the same style of leather as our best-selling Fort Worth Brown. They are stellar!

We named them Lockhart -- after the vibrant town, a short 35 minute drive from Little Sabah Austin, that's known as the Barbecue Capital of Texas.

Accordingly, we spent a day there with our friends from Mill Scale Metalworks. They took us to all their favorite spots, documented in the images & notes to follow. Consider it a day tripper's guide to this great town.

A Day Trip to Lockhart.

We've always loved Lockhart -- a town just a half hour's drive away from Austin, Texas. It's got that nostalgic, sleepy small town Texas vibe, replete with a charming town square & tumbleweeds blowing through. But that alone would be a mischaracterization because Lockhart has a lot going on. From some of the best BBQ in Texas to great vintage shopping, art & music, we love spending a long afternoon there!

First stop, naturally, we visited the new Mill Scale store & workshop and met up with our friends. They've built an impressive headquarters: you'll find their entire line-up of grills & smokers, can purchase all types of barbecuing goodies, and can peak into their production facility.

From there, we did what most folks come to Lockhart to do: eat BBQ. While there's fierce debate about who's serving the best BBQ in town, the Mill Scale team swears by Kreuz Market - so that's where they took us. An operation dating back to the late 1800s, it did NOT disappoint: ribs, brisket, and sausage smoked over Texas Oak and all served on waxed paper, no sauce, no forks (my mouth is watering as a I write this!). Delicious!

After lunch, we needed to walk it off so we visited Commerce Gallery, which is located on the square. Owned by couple Donna Blair & Tamara Carlisle - they feature a spectacular array of mostly Texan or Texas-based artists and host regular openings throughout the year.

From there, we made our way to visit Allie of Stampworthy Goods -- an iconic vintage furniture & home goods dealer in downtown Lockhart. We were amazed by her collection. Not visiting Lockhart anytime soon? You can find 'em on Instagram too!

Final stop before hitting everyone's favorite Lockhart tavern was the Leona - a series of cabins designed by Lake Flato - which opens this Spring and will be a fantastic place to stay in Lockhart. Mill Scale has installed some of their incredible cooking equipment there too!

Finally, you can't visit Lockhart without saddling up to the bar at Old Pal Tavern. They make a GREAT (like the best) margarita, serve some of the coldest beer in Texas, and have a seriously delicious food menu. They also have regular live music if you stay into the evening. Don't miss it!

That's our Lockhart Sabah -- a robust leather that'll wear in well and gather a beautiful patina, reminiscent perhaps of how that steel BBQ equipment in Lockhart has aged over the years: a smokey, weathered black. Get a pair and then get some BBQ!

Austin: First Thursdays Are Back.

We're kicking off our 2024 series with a real banger: The Bros Fresh are going to bring the energy plus we'll have a special guest performance by Shvkiel. That's next Thursday, April 4 in the backyard at Little Sabah Austin.

Food, drinks & local makers will all be in attendance too. Always a good time, all are welcome!
