Our first spotlight shines on Fer Piña, founder of SOLOSÉ FC in Mexico City 🇲🇽
In this companion piece to the segment we ran in The RE—CAP Show on Thursday, go deeper with Fer on all things football culture, reimagining the game, and soccer hot takes...
⚽ How would you describe football culture in your city?
Futbol culture in Mexico City is intense, emotional, and deeply woven into everyday life. It lives in big stadiums, but just as powerfully in small neighborhood courts, in the street, in schools, in conversations, in family traditions. It’s loud, passionate, dramatic — people don’t just watch futbol here, they feel it.
✨ How are you reimagining the game?
I’m reimagining the game by bringing it back to its roots, to play, to community, to feeling and then building forward from there.
Through solosé, I create mixed, open futbol spaces in a public court where creativity, culture, and human connection
are just as important as competition. It’s not about being the best player on the pitch, it’s about remembering why we started playing in the first place.
🔥 Your soccer hot take:
The future of futbol isn’t more perfection, it’s more feeling. We’ve been taught to see the game only through performance, results, and pressure, but the real power of futbol is cultural, emotional, and communal. Street courts, mixed games, women’s spaces, queer spaces, that’s where the game is evolving the fastest.
The “unpolished” side of futbol isn’t less important… it’s actually where the most honest and transformative version of the game lives.
