Our next spotlight shines on Elisa Davidson of Guerrilla FC out of Washington D.C. 🌸 In this companion piece to the segment we ran in The RE—CAP Show on 8/13, go deeper with Elisa on all things community, football, and Guerilla FC. ⚽ How are you reimagining the game? We’re reimagining the game by protecting what makes this game beautiful. We care deeply about the quality of football, creative expression, and accessibility because those things shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.
A lot of our community comes from immigrant backgrounds, so this game has always been a cultural touchpoint. It’s how we connect to our identities and to one another. We’re really about creating those subaltern third spaces where that culture can thrive, spaces where people can play at a high-level, express themselves freely, and build community regardless of where we come from. We believe this game is at its best when everyone feels like they have a place in it. 🖤 What is core to your community? Creative expression + accessibility!
✨ Why are you proud of your community? Our community reflects the best parts of this sport. We’ve built a sense of home. For so many people that have been exhausted by playing pro or competitive ball that sucks the love out of this game, we’ve been able to bring the love of the game back, the fun, and sustain it.
