Declassified Cuvée Louis Plots from the Best Vintage Since 2008
Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Champagne ($94.99)
"Don’t miss this batch—I doubt that they will ever declassify such a great vintage again!” — Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Champagne

This batch of Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs was one of the most exciting champagnes that I tasted on my April trip to the region, and now it is our best-in-category sub $100 Blanc de Blancs in the store. It is so good that I would say it is better than most at twice the price. The reasons are simple; it is based on 2019, the best vintage in the region since 2008, and the Billecart family decided to declassify plots that would normally go into their Cuvée Louis Blanc de Blancs (at $200+) into this non-vintage wine. With five years on the lees, and composed of a roll call of the best grand crusMesnil, Chouilly and Cramant—this has not only the citric refreshment and mineral back end you would expect, but real texture and fine baguette toast. Don’t miss this batch—I doubt that they will ever declassify such a great vintage again!

Billecart-Salmon

Billecart-Salmon Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Champagne ($94.99)

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A bright medium yellow golden hue, it opens to a lifted and dewy profile with notes of linen, pear, and a hint of tropical fruit of passionfruit and quince coming through. Floral, fresh, and medium-bodied, it floats on the palate with a weightless, airy feel and a very pretty nature throughout. It has a fine mousse and a clean, chalky textured finish that tapers away. It will be very appealing now or over the next 12-15 years. It has the addition of 3.9 grams per liter dosage and was disgorged in May 2024. (AF)" (12/2024)

93 points John Gilman: "I do not get to taste Billecart-Salmon these days with anywhere near the frequency I once did, so I was delighted to have an opportunity to taste this bottle of their non-vintage Blanc de Blancs from the Base Year of 2014. The wine is made from fruit sources in the villages of Mesnil, Chouilly, Cramant and Avize, with the vins clairs fermented and raised in stainless steel tanks. Part of the malo is blocked in certain vintages and the wine includes up to forty percent reserve wines from the previous vintage. It was finished with a dosage of eight grams per liter and is drinking beautifully today, offering up an almost silky palate impression. The bouquet is nicely polished and quite complex, wafting from the glass in a mix of lemon, tart pear, chalky minerality, bread dough, white flowers and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and nicely mineral in personality, with a fine core of fruit, elegant mousse and a long, complex and very nicely balanced finish. This is really drinking very nicely and still has plenty of life ahead of it. (Drink between 2024-2045)" (05/2024)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Taut and mineral, this fine Blanc de Blancs Champagne brings out the crispness of Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. Its croissant aroma suggests some bottle age, confirmed in the ripeness of the white fruits and acidity. Drink now. (RV)" (12/2024)

93 points James Suckling: "Very clean and creamy blanc de blancs showing notes of sliced apples, pie crust, lemons, oyster shells and thyme. Lovely freshness and balance, with fine, creamy bubbles and a rounded yet dry finish. Base wine 2017 with 23% of reserve wine. 1.2g/L dosage. Drink now." (11/2023)

93 points Wine Advocate: "The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is showing beautifully today, with aromas of confit citrus, pear, herbs, orchard fruits, pastry and brioche. Medium to full-bodied, it is round and supple with the delicate, bright tension that is the signature of Billecart-Salmon. Perfectly balanced and offering a vinous, toasty and elegantly long finish, it's based on the 2017 vintage with 23% from 2016. Vinified and matured in stainless steel, it spent five years on the lees in bottle before being disgorged with a dosage of 1.7 grams per liter. (YC)" (10/2024)

Jancis Robinson: "An exceptionally elegant, silky and surprisingly delicate champagne. I was expecting power, but this is like a mouthful of shimmering ribbons. An unusual floral fragrance, like the elusive scent of lily of the valley in an early-morning garden. Rich citrus woven into baked pear, tingling with green-apple sherbet. The bubbles float over the wine like cashmere lace. Tremendous purity. And the wine develops in the glass in a way I was not expecting, becoming richer, more dense, beginning to taste of violets and fresh-churned pink clay, of bread-yeast starters and sleepy pools of candlelight. A poet's champagne. (TC)" (11/2022)

If you like your Champagne clean and refreshing, this is the best bottle that we have for you. Antoine Billecart insists on fermentations that are slow and cold, and the family has developed its own strain of yeast that can work in super low temperatures, resulting in a Champagne that is light as feather and arcs with electric excitement. This wine delivers all of this without any harsh grain, since it has been aged for over sixty months on the lees... A fabulous treat!

The Billiecart Salmon Blanc de Blancs is super a super clean, refreshing champagne. On the nose there is a nice bit of brioche, bright Meyer lemons and a small hint of apple. On the palate its very light, mineral and high acid showcasing a long chalky finish. Love the Meyer lemon notes on this guy!

Crisp green apple, Meyer lemon, and the faintest brioche aromas pop out of the glass of this blanc de blancs stunner from Billecart-Salmon. On the palate it's fresh and electric, with ripe citrus flesh flavors, a delicate bead, and a long, chalky finish. This would make a great aperitif and would drink beautifully with a dozen briny oysters on the half shell!

This is simply great Blanc de Blanc with golden orchard fruits, minerals, white cake, and sea salt on the nose. On the palate, golden apple and yellow pear flavors with just a hint of caramel, candied ginger and a light mineral/sea salt aftertaste. It has the bonus of an extremely long finish of lemon meringue! Absolutely delicious!
